With us looking to do business in January and few players wanting to leave with the WC next year / clubs not wanting to sell, there could be a bargain or two to be had in players whose contract ends next summer. List of the notable ones below;
Valdes Akinfeev Sagna Terry Kaboul Heitinga Fernando (Porto) Pirlo Alonso Cambiasso Matuidi Rosicky Menez Fernandez (Besiktas) Toivonen Tom Ince Lewandowski Diego
Some (ex) world class players there. Would be happy with Fernando or Matuidi, Lewandowski (looks to be on the way to Bayern but I'm told it's not as wrapped up as a lot of people think) and although I'd love Pirlo, I'd probably take second best in Alonso due to age.

Isn't Fernando from Porto supposed to be brilliant? Suprised they let him run his contract. Matuidi is pretty good as well.

Pirlo. Just for one season. Please, even half a season.

Pirlo, because Tom Ince, because bye Ashley Young. Fernando, because we won't get Gundogan. Also Ola Toivonen, because he's one of those players nobody has really heard of. He doesn't get linked to big clubs that often, but is under-statedly pretty good so wouldn't mind us taking a punt. Except he's an AM, so there isn't enough room with Kagawa's talent and Rooney's opinion of himself.

Someone posted a YT link of Fernando in some other thread...haven't seen or heard much about him before, but his tackling seems brilliant and he seems to know how to control the ball pretty well too. He might be an interesting option...

Pirlo would be fkn amazing.... imagine Carrick & Pirlo in midfield with Kags infront and RVP up top?
Akinfeev - remember when he was like the best keeper ever on FM?

Akinfeev was always the first signing I'd make, I'd have him understudy VDS for a season or two and then he'd take over. Total beast in FM.
Shows that perhaps we shouldn't always trust how good players are on Football Manager.

I'd say very good, I've been posting about him quite a bit recently, similar in style to Jones but technically better I'd say. With potential injuries to Jones himself and our other defenders, I think he'd be a very shrewd buy, would be perfect for the bigger games as well to give us more protection.

Probably money.

List of the notable ones below; Valdes Akinfeev Sagna Terry Kaboul Heitinga Fernando (Porto) Pirlo - Make this happen and I will swoon. Alonso Cambiasso Matuidi - Excellent player and a vital cog in the PSG midfield, although I'd much rather Verratti. Rosicky Menez Fernandez (Besiktas) Toivonen Tom Ince - If he comes without the English player price tag. Lewandowski Diego Some (ex) world class players there. i get the feeling people forget that Pirlo is like 300 years old. lol.
seriously though, as class as he is, i wouldn't touch him now. no guarantee he'll manage the tempo of the prem, he's 34 (35 in May), and to be honest in my eyes it would be Scholes all over again: one of the class CM's of a generation losing his ability in our team while keeping us from moving on to a younger and (currently) better model.
For example, i couldn't choose Pirlo over Fernando if both are available (Again based on current levels, not a body of work over a career, 'cus Pirlo was clearly a cut above 95% of CM in his pomp)

True he's 34 and plays in the much slower Serie A but the guy is an absolute master with a level of ball control and passing ability to make your eyes water, to the point where his lack of pace is barely an issue. He still flourishes at Juve because of that but also because he has the awesome pairing of Vidal and Pogba next to him. So I suppose if he was to come to United you'd need more mobile midfielders next to him... which is something we don't have. I can dream though!
