They are reportedly behind schedule aren't they? Probably rushing now and hence so many hiccups... unfortunately this only leaves the families of those poor workers greiving. Poorly planned... Brasil should have invested the money into their people instead of the WC imo.

Heard it was something to do with the weather? There has been a lot of rainfall recently which caused some temporary weakening or damage to the unfinished concrete or something?
Tragic all the same. RIP.

Er... isn't South Africa the backup option? I'd flip if the WC came back here

I don't see them changing the host nation so late. It will be madness and make things possibly worse for Brazil as a nation. But yeah Brazil should never have got the World Cup. Just like Qatar and Russia.

USA or England would make great backups because the infrastructure is already in place and they would take much lesser time to get all the preparations sorted out in time for the World Cup.
EDIT - In fact, I am of the opinion that such events must only be allowed to be staged by countries with appropriate infrastructure. Not to countries who have to build it all just for the world cup. I am very sure we will see hundreds of stories of muggings, robberies and other such incidents during the Brazil edition. The favelas will be buzzing about how they will have the biggest paydays of their lives in that one month or so. This is a country which is still grappling with poverty, rampant presence of drug gangs and is undergoing a financial slump. It should not be made to carry the burden of hosting a successful world cup as well. Goes to show yet again that FIFA are run by clueless mugs. But we've said that too many times.

I don't want to begrudge a great football nation a world cup but is it really worth spending Billons on a world cup when more than 80% of the country lives in poverty. No one deserves to host a world cup as much in latin america but you should be hosting it when its right to do so, I see pictures everyday of stadiums that look like theres 6 months worth of work still to do. Blatters more interested in his legacy, the first man to bring a world cup to asia, middle east and back to brazil but he's not thinking about the people in those countries. No country benefits financially from host a world cup when you have to build everything from scratch.
