Was United the only option? "Man United is a massive club. In England it is the club with the most fans around the world. It is a big challenge for me. But I think everything is going to be fine, with the players that are going to come in in the summer'.Excuse me.......? Did he really say that? Indeed he did. Interesting.....

Indeed he did. Interesting..... So it seems that he and phc both know who we have coming in the summer... It seems he said 'who is coming' rather then 'who we hope is coming..' Interesting indeed...

^^ wondering the same thing. do we have deals in place already or have we shared a possible list or something. Have Ed and DM really taken the fingers out and learned so quickly or it could all be a PR exercise ( sorry to be a party popper , pessimistic)

BBC report - Juan Mata: New Man Utd signing keen to link up with Rooney
Title is a bit misleading, mainly because it is the reporter who asks "are you keen to play with Rooney?". He can't really say no, can he?
But Mata is brilliant. He says "Rooney is, for me, one of the best... [stalls for a while]... player from this country."
Smart. Really, really smart! I like this lad so much already!
Additional comments from Ben Smith:
"It was hard not to be impressed by Juan Mata at Manchester United's Carrington training ground. The Spaniard swerved around every awkward question and looked genuinely delighted to be a United player, while always remaining complimentary and respectful about his former employees.
"He was particularly impressed by United's decision to fly him up from London by helicopter for his medical. David Moyes couldn't keep the smile off his face throughout. He is clearly delighted to have got his man."
Good man. Well done Woodward on this transfer.

"For me, he's one of the best players in the history of this country. He can score, he can assist and he can come deep to the midfield to take the ball. "I think I'll enjoy playing alongside him. I'll try to connect with him as much as I can. I'll try to find gaps as I think that's my best kind of play - to try to assist the strikers."

Nah, he states "he's one of the best players in the history [of] THIS COUNTRY." Mata's smart. He doesn't say "in the world", "of this era" - because really, Rooney is not that great he is made to be. He can't exactly say "Uh, Rooney? Ok."

Its obscene to imagine giving him a contract for £78 million and him playing for £312,000 a week. Especially when some of Our supporters find it difficult to cobble together enough money to buy a season ticket and don't complain. Next thing I expect the Streford End to be renamed the Rooney Stand. Can't wait for the statue -- then I can chuck a pie at it!!

Next thing I expect the Streford End to be renamed the Rooney Stand. Can't wait for the statue -- then I can chuck a pie at it!! I feel some people can't wait for that to happen at times. It's not that Rooney is an atrocious player, mind. I always thought he's a great player with a high reputation whose performances depends on the occasion e.g. WC - but he's not a world-class player, struggles for fitness, and definitely doesn't have a world-class mentality. He's a mercenary, and will never in my eyes a United Good (can't bear to say United Great). How people who fight stringently for him to stay other than business reasons... I will never understand.

Definitely held his words on Rooney very carefully. He has been briefed!

The fact that this is a World Cup year excites me massively because Mata will be playing out of his skin from now till May in order to get a place in that Spanish team. A lot of times with new signings they seem to ease their way in but I think Mata is biting at the bit to play for us.

Indeed he did. Interesting..... So it seems that he and phc both know who we have coming in the summer... It seems he said 'who is coming' rather then 'who we hope is coming..' Interesting indeed... I think Dave will be a Manager who wants the superstars & wants to keep them happy, Polar opposite of Ferguson. Could well work though.
