Goal and assist on his return to Dortmund. Fucking marvellous. Such a great footballing shame. He is at a club where he is comfortable and playing for a manager who knows exactly how to use him. He faced the antithesis of this at our club until LvG decided he had a better option in Mata and possibly Adnan and ADM. Good luck to him, hope he rips Arsenal apart next week.

Anyone catch Welbeck's first game today against the Bitter? One moment perhaps encapsulated his time with us and explained why LvG agreed to sell. He displayed great movement and anticipation to run onto a mistake, was through on goal and just couldn't finish, his impudent chip coming off the post. It is not about being ruthless as Scholsey said, it is about actually having finishing ability. Andy Cole was profligate at times but Hus goal record demonstrates that he was a goalscorer, Welbeck's doesn't. I think he will improve at the Arse but in the end Sanchez showed him how with a world class finish as he himself retreated to the wing.

Funny, a report in one of the papers today said a similar incident last year in Bayern when he ballsed up that chip against Neuer was the point where the staff felt Danny would never be the clinical striker they hoped. Supposedly they went over and over it with him, how Neuer goes air born in those situations so the low shot will nearly always lead to a goal with his feet off the ground. Under no circumstance was a chip an option. Not sure how true but interesting reading. And 'the staff' was Round and Lumsden so....,

Goal and assist from Shinji on his return to Dortmund. Fucking marvellous. He's over-rated. Couldn't adapt to being played out of position so he's over-rated. Rooney's much better.

LOL Pleased for Kags - at least his talent isn't being wasted on our bench I think Danny proved LVG was right today - we'll see how much that knocks his confidence ... assuming Wenger picks him and not Sa-Nogo

Fair play to Kags. But just because he becomes a success again doesn't mean LVG has given him a raw deal. He just dint fit at UTD. This happens with loads of players around the globe.

This is why I sleep so easy with LVG in charge. He is no nonsense. I am half thinking that a rejuvenated Rooney is going to emerge under LVG and really surprise us. If it doesn't then he will be out. Either way Manchester United are back setting standards. Which makes me so happy.

I'll be a lot more comfortable when and if LvG makes a statement and hauls Rooney off halfway through a game or gives him a spell on the bench. Until I see it happen I still have the feeling that even LvG feels he has to play him because of the captaincy that he was handed + wages/board pressure/marketing ability.
As he has done so far by trying to squeeze him into teams.

This whole transfer window has given me a new appreciation of the juggling act that has to be done to balance all the commercial stuff and at the same time maintain the high standard of football that is required if the club is going to be a "big" club in terms of $$. As was suggested earlier, IMO the captain's band was a "commercially driven" appointment, not just for the fans, but for the sponsors that see Rooney's face front and center on the advertising they are doing, at the same time, LvG is putting together a group of players which can, and likely will, put the Captain on the bench. Letting him hoist himself by his own jock, or better yet, having him return to the form and fire that had people thinking he was going to tear up the world of football. Either way, it is all good. While the press was worrying about Vidal an Hummel and others, and Ed was waving money and looking a bit silly and scaring fans that this could be repeat of last summer, the behind closed doors deals which will return United to the top of the PL (I think very possibly this year if the club gels as I believe it will, given LvG hand picked the players he felt would play his brand of football) were conducted and world class players showed up. Showed up talking about "the project" , probably looking forward to a year of less travel and no CL, believing that they had all the pieces in place to win a treble in the next couple years, especially since Ronnie is coming back \0/ Wonder if Brad Pitt is gonna play Ed Woodward in the Football version of "Moneyball" , this transfer window could make for one hell of a movie

It's win win for LVG. Either he gets the best out of Rooney and he gets the plaudits, or he gets the worst, he benches or even sells him and the rest of the team react to it, and he gets the plaudits lol
