Tom was the recipient of so much abuse outside of Old Trafford, what with the petition and everything, so United fans should have been taking the exact opposite stance. Booing your own players is just shit. I fucking hate Rooney with a passion but would never boo him. Throw up in my mouth a bit everytime he touches the ball maybe, but never boo. Yeah, I thought that might have been the point when Utd fans got behind the lad once the rest of England jumped on his back.

Tom is a very respectful young man who will make a nice living in football. He is not a top 4 player and never will be. His career had stagnated with us in all honesty and for him more than anyone he needed out. I wish him the very best in his career and he is going to get coached by 2 top class guys who know a thing or 2 about playing in midfield which will improve him.

I am always a bit bothered to hear any player boo'd, unless it is for dirty play. There are always the ref's and their assistants who need a bit of booing to keep them honest. (Even though, according to opposing fans, Fergie owned all of them, muppets do need excuses for losing don't they? ) I thought Clev was very good when he first returned from the loan period, then got hurt. I've always felt that it was the injury that undid him. He seemed to me to have lost about a step and a half in quickness, and that initial 4 to 5 yard burst was what helped him find space to work. I hope he does well.

Absolutely, I like Tom, he's a good lad, and he'll cop some flak for speaking the truth about a very vocal minority of the United fanbase. Was he ever good enough for us? Probably not, but it's hard when he's having to all Scholes' and Carricks's running to play your natural game. Still, I'll like the lad for being the bloke who got the Anti-Moyes bandwagon rolling in the dressing room.

TC is very good at the quick one touch passing. himself, welbeck and ando were impressive with their little triangles of quick movement. i think he was good enough for united when he had a better supporting cast. last year showed him to be lacking as a leader in the midfield. maybe with delph and westwood at villa he can thrive.

And he will have Keane and Lambert teaching him his trade, as MF coaches go that's not too shabby.

Well I guess maybe I am the minority here? Yes, Tom looked on fire until the Butcher of Bolton fucked him up good, but since he has been tentative and reclusive on the ball. He is not what we would want and expect at this point to turn the attack forward and make other players around him better. We need to have quality throughout the starting 11, and the second 11, I think that it was the right time to let Cleverley go on loan and see if he can improve his game...

He's right, he's been given a disgraceful beating from our own supporters. I'm ashamed of the fuckwits on Twitter who celebrated him leaving and everything before that. What ever happened to the 'United' in United. Tom really was one of us, and now he feels like he could never play for us again. Shameful. Worse thing about being a United fan this is Bestie unfortunately. United like obv many on here understand is a way of life that is now unescapable, but fuck me we've a frightening amount of 'fans' who insist on their nonsense being heard yet have prob no idea who Robbo is. It is unfortunately a disease among our support. That so many of our support are oblivious to why Clevs especially doesn't deserve the overwhelming abuse he gets is unreal. Tom just fell short of what was required at OT and that is no crime. He is still United thru and thru and he deserves nothing more than our best wishes for the future Sorry for the mini rant lads. Just grinds my biscuits I tell ya Help if Sunday wasn't taking a lifetime 2 arrive as well....

Good try lads. Literally pushing towards 1000 pages, and the discussion has changed from Summer Transfer to Booing of players. Keep going. 1000 pages - here we come and lets get this historic thread be locked after that.

The major criticism I always had with Cleverly was his reluctance to pass forward quickly. I got very very frustrated with him going across and back and passing the buck as it were. Confidence can do this and just maybe he didn't have the personality to be able to grab our team bu the scruff of the neck. He was way to safe for me.

He just didnt have the ability to read a game and control it, his a typical example of club fans and England fans overhyping a player and being dissapointed with the end result... This is why we should be careful with James Wilson, dont want people thinking his the next best thing. Let him play football and then just see what happens!

Yup - myself and GrampyTJ said that when he came back - not sure if he has actually declined physically or it's a mental thing but he was nowhere near the same player when he returned
