www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/26691561Obviously we all know the problems facing the 2022 world cup with the potential of a winter world cup, slave labour and now fresh corruption charges but now FIFA has a new problem with the 2018 world cup. With Russia's recent involvement in Crimea and apparent disregard for international law should they still be allowed to host the world cup? Personally I think it sends the wrong message if FIFA were to still reward Russia with the World Cup which could potentially make them million also is it really the image football needs? From the article. "Mr Putin is going to have to decide if he's a part of the international club and everything that brings with it, or is he going to go it alone? I just think it's time to stand up to him. " Little bit political for a Saturday afternoon but its an interesting question and I just wondered what everyone else thought about it?

I thin if they choose to go isolationist over Crimea then they should not be welcomed as part o the International community.
However FIFA have already been (- ahem -) compensated or allowing Russia to host the WC so it isn't going to change a thing...

If Russia cannot host a World cup over this then pretty much any country that has been involved or instigated an invasion cannot host anything.

I'm more concerned about the World heading into choppy waters, to be honest. Don't like any of the hostile reactions going on these past few weeks between USA / UK & EU / Russia - including the China / Japan / South-East Asian Countries tensions from last year. Not healthy.
Much less concerned whether FIFA is able to make more or less money.

I agree with you mate some of the storys and videos coming form isis/palastine/iraq and Ukraine its scary stuff and been a family man I worry about the world we bring our kids into but getting back to the main post I dont thunk russai should have it nor shpuld they have had the winter Olympic or should they have the formula1 its a disgrace but it just shows that the corruption within fifa and formula 1 is unreal

We don't need to worry about Russia. We need to worry about what our government and the fruit cakes across the pond are doing; NATO, America, Europe, our government have been leading us into wars that we shouldn't be fighting.
America is by far the worst country in the world, bar North Korea.

So FIFA takes the Mobsters money, spearheaded by the rent boys owner, and landing the World Cup in racist heaven, do we really think that Blatter and his money pandering crooks care about politics...lol
Now Qatar receiving the World Cup is a travesty to football, winter competition? Has not the USA and what they brought fan wise to this last World Cup not enough to bring the event to the site were it needs to be brought back to? USA-USA-USA

A country that killed thousands of their own people in the twin towers and more than that through police brutality. Or not to mention the highest prison population in history. Or the fact they're about to declare martial law. I feel sorry for the American people that they have such lunatics in power.

I do not get into a lot of politics on a site that makes me feel good about football, but after 9-11 we did a lot of things that we might of should have, and should have not done. Like going after the scum in Afghanistan was a should have, we needed to take care of the cancer, but should have not gone into Iraq. My son-law was hit by one of those Iranian I.E.Ds btw, and he was never the same. And as a USA national I would have secured our boarders after all this, but again I am not the president of this great country, and my hands are tied...

I hear you and it's such a shame that any of our soldiers go to these wars in the name of "terror". I just don't think America should be the model country.
Australia would be my choice i was going to choose somewhere to have a World Cup. They're sport crazy and let's be honest their football could do with it. They have the infrastructure and man power to be able to sort their stadiums, slave free.

Thats probably the key factor in why they don't get it, beyond that they are probably ideal.

We have to put up with watching every fucking game in the world at a stupid timezone but Aus hosts everything brilliantly but we can't have a tournament because we wouldn't want the rest of the world getting up at a stupid hour.

In fairness trying to watch The Ashes when it's in Australia is a bit of a nightmare, but I usually do it anyway. At least some of it.
Some big sporting occasions deserve to have, 'Hang the tiredness!' said about them. Reckon a World Cup in Australia would be epic, with one small exception for the fact that dickhead Cahill would be all over everywhere.
