Considering how much we all go on about them, it's suddenly struck me as amazing that we don't have a thread for general tactics discussion!
I don't know how much everybody else is, but I am fascinated with the tactical side of football, formations and philosophies. I love it, genuinely. A mate of mine bought me a book on the Dutch tactics and football (it's called Neurotic Orange, I've mentioned it before but it is superb) as a Secret Santa I'm that anorak-y about it.
Came across this video and it inspired me to create the thread:
I put it in the General Football section as I don't intend for it to devolve into a discussion of United's tactics and how we should play. I'd like to have a thread where we can talk about what other teams are playing, the merits of them, and everyone's ideas on tactics without it becoming a slanging match about possession versus directness or anything.
Have at it!
(And watch the video, if you're half as interested as me

Do you mean David Winner's, "Brilliant Orange: the Neurotic Genius of Dutch Football"?
Jonathan Wilson's "Inverting the Pyramid" is quite popular in a lot of countries.
I'm aware that in advanced courses for coaches and management that some university sport's departments have been slotting in the fundamentals of chaos theory and game theory into the curriculum. I wouldn't recommend any of it to a casual observer as it's heavily loaded with mathematical philosophy. But, if you can cope with the content students tell me it improves their poker performance.

Apropos of not very much at all, I have been reading that LvG is thinking of going with a 5-3-2 formation with the Dutch team...it seems a variation on the 3 CBs with LB and RB bombing forward and interestingly has 2 strikers contrary to what is fashionable right now...if it works, I wonder if he will try it with United (if he comes of course!)
