www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-news-giggs-mourinho-11375725#ICID=sharebar_twitterRyan Giggs declined his role to remain at Manchester United under Jose Mourinho since he wanted a 'gold-plated guarantee' he would replace the Portuguese as the club's next manager.
M.E.N. Sport understands Giggs conceded he was not the suitable choice to directly succeed Louis van Gaal, since he recognised United required experience to oversee the team's recovery, and he was braced for Mourinho's appointment as early as April. Giggs then ended his 29-year association with United after he was offered a 'downgraded' role which would have seen him cut from Mourinho's matchday staff. Mourinho had planned to have a meeting with Giggs but United maintained they would not put pressure on the 42-year-old, who has decided to depart United with Louis van Gaal and his Dutch coaching staff. Mourinho was said to have earmarked City coach Brian Kidd as an option to vacate Giggs' planned role under the new structure but the Blues insisted Kidd was 'going nowhere'. Giggs left United's Carrington training ground early on the morning Van Gaal's sacking was confirmed and headed to his restaurant George's in Worsley, where he was described as 'having a face like thunder'. One source claimed Giggs said his goodbyes to groundsmen at United's training complex before he left the premises and the club has now confirmed his departure 40 days later. good grief

Man was, is and always will be a United legend, what happened is what happens at clubs that create history. Best of everything to one of the greatest that ever has worn United kit, his legend is part of the club and always will be.

I'm not sad that Giggs is leaving. I was sad when he retired, because that was an end to him doing the thing that I'd (largely) loved watching him do. And the thing that, for the bulk of his career, he was good at doing.
But the only constant in the coaching staff since Fergie left has been Giggs. And none of those years have been good years. Therefore he shouldn't be allowed to keep his job. Fair enough, after Moyes, but he can't survive two dreadful managerial reigns. Yeah, he's Ryan Giggs, great player, obviously a legend of the game, but he could be a fucking shite coach for all we know. He might not have what it takes to be a manager. He couldn't stay on another year purely out of sentiment.
Aside from that, he knows too many of the players personally. That's a problem to me. They all need a fucking kick up the arse, and they're not going to get that from their mate, ultimately.
Big respect for what Giggs did on the pitch, but I mourned that when he packed it in. I'm not upset about this because when I think of the past few years, I think of him sat on his arse for 90% of a season, then putting a suit on for 4 games, then sitting on his arse for another season and a half, then standing up briefly when we played Liverpool, then finally returning to his seat until the end of the campaign. If you want to manage Manchester United, go and fucking prove your credentials, then we'll talk. Nothing should be handed to anyone on a plate in football.

Kid is class. Far to many young people these days don't understand what courtesy is, TFM really shows he has it together. All the little things he does point to great character IMO

Failed his interview for Swansea and been disregarded by Cardiff. If Giggs can't get a job with a bloody Welsh club then that should knock this idiotic 'future United manager' farce on the head.
Talk is if he ever does get a gig he would want to poach Butty from our Academy too - nice of Giggsy to put United first eh?

I was gonna say he'd be a bloody idiot to go there, but thinking on it, it'd be a no lose for him really.
If he does well, obviously that's a big tick for him.
If he does shit then he has the excuse of "it's Villa isn't it? The clubs a mess from top to bottom, no manager could be expected to do anything the way that club is run."

Remembering Giggs will know that Butt would never leave as head of the academy at United for a role a temporary role at somewhere like Swansea, he fucking loves his job and he knows it's long term.

He should be able to get a Villa up with that squad in the championship, and if he did he would lauded as the second coming from Villa fans and his mates in the media but he'd be most likely found out in his first season in the prem with a Villa squad

Youve forgotten that Butt never wanted his job. He wanted to coach the youngsters not run the academy. So he'd leave for a temporary role at Swansea? He's absolutely grown into his role and he's advised in massive changes to how our academy's run, i was hugely skeptical when he got the job but he has surprised me so far and in every interview he looks like he's absolutely loving it. But I was asking for the substantial claims about Giggs wanting to poach Butt because that was the original point A side note, the youth setup is perfect for Butt because he grew up in Gorton near me and alongside Levvy those two places are known for being the roughest places in South Manchester. He can keep up the tradition of toughening up a lot of the softarses which have been pampered since the age of 10

It isn't so much if Butty would leave his gig as Head of the Academy but if he would turn down literally his best mate at United. Butt and Giggs go all the way back to the Cliff.

Eh I kept editing my post and realised I went off topic a bit, as good mates as the CO92 are, they are all up to different things at the moment. I was just asking for the source of where you said the butty thing from? Because let's be fair, there's a lot of anti-Giggs sentiment on here at the moment including me recently but lets not throw around accusations without proof. Just like we ask other members for when they make a big claim
