Am I being cynical if I suggest that this is a massive anti-climax totally unbefitting the legend that is Ryan Giggs? This man deserves an open top parade, a national holiday and a knighthood to commentate the career he's had and the massive contribution he's made to this football club.
However, the last few years of "not as good as he once was" performances, and being forced to manage the club because the recently sacked manager was a complete moron meant he hasn't received the send off he truly deserves.
Giggs is certainly the greatest servant this club has had in my lifetime (pre Ser Bobby) and might end up being the greatest ever. Everything great about this club, every trophy we've won, all the near misses, everything we believe this club holds dear and everything we believe it may become again is embodied in this man.
If he follows in the footsteps of LvG's other famous number twos he just might be the Ser Bobby of our time.

I'm rather hoping the club will do something to celebrate his career...maybe at the beginning of next season, seeing as how he is still going to be here...

Maybe I fail to see this but in which way are januzaj and giggs alike? They are totally different types of players. The only thing they share is they are both very talented. One is a legend and the other has the chance to become one. I do agree that he should get the 11 shirt, providing he can get a regular first team place. They're both skillful left wingers. They jink past players, score goals and have vision for a killer pass. How can they not be alike? It's not just attributes either I just think the play similar styles. Giggs used to play on the right and Middle before Sharpe left and Kanchelskis joined. For about a decade Giggsy's main weapon was his lightening pace and has adapted his game as the pace has slowly ebbed away. Januzaj isn't that type of player. If Giggsy was like Best, the Jani is more like Cruijff.

Giggs used to play on the right and Middle before Sharpe left and Kanchelskis joined. I differ on this mate. Skillful - yes (but that hardly is a similarity) Left wingers - Giggsy was an out and out winger, Jani likes to play as #10 Jinking past players, scoring goals & vision for killer pass - Even Messi does that, that doesnt make both similar. Anyway, hope he becomes as much of a legend as Giggs. That brings me to the point. Giggs has been an out-and-out red devil. His contribution is immeasurable & cannot be quantified. The perfect time for him to retire was at the end of title winning season of 2010-11. That could have provided a triumphant send-off and atleast 2 seasons as assistant to SAF and probably ready to be our gaffer after SAF retired. However, never too late. Good opportunity under LvG. Hope to see you as the gaffer soon.

I don't like keeping numbers vacant.
Last season was the first season in the history of the club that we were without a #7. And we finished 7th.

Presumably, we'll have our customary Home friendly before the season starts. Name Giggs on the bench, bring him on for the final 10 mins. Give him a mic, job done.

We are talking about the best player in our clubs history imo. The greatest player ever to grace the Premiership and their has been fuck all said about it.
