One of football’s greatest ever players, Alfredo Di Stefano, has died at the age of 88.
The Argentina-born star passed away in a Madrid hospital on Monday, two days after suffering a heart attack.
Di Stefano had been in a coma since suffering a heart attack on Saturday.
Born in 1926, Di Stefano was a key member of the Real Madrid side that dominated Spanish and European football during the 1950s and early 1960s.
He spent the final two days of his life in the intensive care unit of the Gregorio Maranon hospital where he was kept in an induced coma.
Real Madrid announced that honorary president Alfredo di Stefano died at 17:15 (GMT).
A Real Madrid statement reads: “President Florentino Perez, and the club's executive committee, would like to express their most sincere condolences, love and support for his children, family members and friends.”
Very sad news, a hero to many of the great players including George best and the late Eusebio. Very sad news indeed.

RIP Don ALfredo. The first Galactico. Absolute legend. Will never forget him and Real Madrid helping us out after the Munich disaster. Sir Matt considered him and Puskas practically family. It was a fantastic relationship between the two clubs and sad to see the current state of it.

Yeah, it seemed bad straight away. Heart attack then coma? You could almost sense it unfortunately.
One of the 'old gentlemen' of football in my eyes. Whatever Real Madrid have become in the modern era, Di Stefano - along with others, especially Puskas - is a symbol of the romance we still associate with the club. Genuinely saddened that he's died.
R. I. P. Alfredo Di Stefano.

Legend, RIP.
Just the 307 goals in 396 games for Real, not a bad tally.

Not sure if people will know this already, but story has it that Di Stefano wanted to come on loan to us in the immediate aftermath of Munich, but registration issues prevented him from coming.
Just goes to show the measure of the man.
