I think Barcelona have gotten more and more like Madrid in recent years. If you look at the last 20 players who have won the ballon d'or most come from Madrid and Barca and not alway deservedly

23 teams and since 1993 their has been 5 different winners one of which is playing in the lower leagues. We can huff and puff all we want but over the last couple of years the La Liga teams have been brilliant at times especially when we got spanked in the Europa. City are the current champions and they have never played in the last 8 of Europe's elite.... they've only had money for a few seasons, why would they have? what a silly argument Not as silly as sitting around scratching you heads trying to figure out why Madrid keep managing to lure top talent. Essentially the same as asking why men wank off over Cheryl Cole.

Ronaldo essentially started begging to leave us a day after he had won the European cup. Like it or not they have an aurora and a reputation that most clubs can not compete with.

That aura and reputation didn't come from winning solitary CL in 12 yrs, surely? Galactico era is a major reason for the attraction of current players. How did you think Madrid could afford to sign so many stars back then?

That aura and reputation didn't come from winning solitary CL in 12 yrs, surely? Galactico era is a major reason for the attraction of current players. How did you think Madrid could afford to sign so many stars back then? Now they have 150m euros to play with from TV revenue, plus all the money they make from there players image rights. I remember reading they can persuade players to part with more than half of there commercial income from image rights. Can you imagine Rooney parting with half of his earnings from his vast collection of sponsorship work?. It was one of the big sticking points with Ronaldos new deal www.theguardian.com/football/2009/jun/17/cristiano-ronaldo-real-madrid-image-rights-row
