This is a reply I got from a Sporting supporter about the guy

I´m sorry for being late, mate... but I'm still celebrating the homecoming of Nani.

As you may imagine, for a club such as Sporting, especially considering the moment that the club is experiencing, having the opportunity to get a player like Nani, even if only for 1 season, means a great deal.
Like I've said in William Carvalho threat, Sporting was almost dead 2 years ago. The new President... I say new but he is already President for one and an half years... is making, imho, a fantastic work in the club. A great part of that work is, in few words, doing much more and achieving much more with much less.
The deal with United, concerning Marcos Rojo and Nani, means a turning point in the policy of the club.
It means that the club will not tolerate abuse from those that have the money (I'm not talking about United, I'm talking about football funds like Doyen and some agents), it means that the club may understand the legit aspirations of a player but only if the player respects the club and only by terms that the club agrees with.
With Rojo case, with the problem came the solution...

The problem was that Sporting had no reason at all to sell the player:
1 - 2 years ago Sporting got 100% of Rojo sporting rights and 25% of Rojo economic rights;
2 - Doyen had (have, we will see what happens...) 75% of Rojo economic rights in a future transfer;
3 - By selling Rojo, Sporting had to pay 20% of the transfer to the previous club (Spartak Moscow) of Rojo;
4 - By seeling Rojo, Sporting had to pay to the Rojo's youth club (Estudiantes LP) something like 2,5% of the transfer fee.

So, by selling Rojo to United, or any other club, even if it was by his clause, 30M€, the math would be simple:
- Doyen - 0.75 x 30 = 22.5 M€ (15 M€ with a transfer fee of 20 M€)
- Spartak Moscow - 0.20 x 30 = 6 M€ (4 M€ with a transfer fee of 20 M€)
- Estudiantes LP - 0.025 x 30 = 0.75 M€ (0.5 M€ with a transfer fee of 20 M€)
- Sporting Clube de Portugal - 30-22.5-6-0.75 = 0.75 M€ (0.5 M€ with a transfer fee of 20 M€)

Yes, this was the kind of deals that the former Sporting directors did for the club. � :x �:x

So, what should Sporting do when the club start getting some proposals for the player?
The only logical thing was to answer that the player was going nowhere, except if some club paid the termination clause of Rojo (30 M€).
Better to have Rojo on the team, than having him go for a 0.75 M€.
That was certainly what Sporting said to any club that wanted Rojo's economic rights. Sporting said "we will get almost no money with this sell, so better to keep a good player on the team".
Doyen fund (the most interested part in Rojo's transfer) understood that.
Sporting was not going to get any money with the transfer, and it would be difficult to find a club that paid the termination clause of 30M€.
So, what could Doyen do? What could they do when the club that had Rojo's sporting rights would not get anything from the player transfer? Not only the club would not get any money, but the club would also lose an important player.
They did what they are not supposed to do!
They (DOYEN fund) started abusing the club, by sending SMS to the Sporting directors and President saying that the player would start to create problem within the club until the club let him go. They disguise themselves as United directors in order to get some inside info of Sporting requests in the transfer.
They, as some may know, did what football funds cannot do... they interfere in a sporting issue. Funds are, still, allowed in football deals only if they don't interfere in the negotiations. They are simply allowed to help the clubs financially, and they are allowed to profit from transfers, but they are not allowed to interfere in any transfer negotiation.
But they did interfere...
They blackmail a club, in order to profit from a transfer that the club didn't, in it's own right, want to do.

So, what did Sporting?!
Sporting did what it was supposed to do, in order to defend the Sporting Clube de Portugal interests.
Sporting explained the situation and terminated all the agreements the club had with DOYEN fund, based on the fact that DOYEN violated the terms in what fund are allowed to operate in football transactions.

But, Manchester United wanted Marcos Rojo.
Manchester United and Sporting Clube de Portugal (and many of their fans � �) are old, and still, good friend. They are clubs that across the last decade showed respect to each other.
And like friends do, United approached Sporting and said to their friends, something like:

"We would like to sign Rojo. We know that the player would like very much to play for United. We, United, are not ready to paid the clause of 30 M€ and we know that Sporting will not get any financial income, with any monetary deal. But, we, Manchester United suspect that Sporting doesn't want to have a player that isn't happy in the club... so... maybe we can work something out... something that could make United, Rojo and Sporting, happy... have you got any idea?"

"Well, you're right. Rojo wants to leave, that's for sure. Sporting will not get anything for the transfer, except the fact that the club will lose a good player, an important player. Certainly, United understands that Sporting can not allowed that some football fund dictates when, and in what conditions, should Sporting transfer a player... especially when that football fund is blackmailing the club that paid Rojo's salaries and provide him with the means and conditions to get to level where he is now... but... like you are saying, we will would not like to have a demotivated player in our team ...
...speaking of demotivated players, how is Nani?! Is he doing alright?!!... If he is not, or if he is demotivated with the options of your present manager, you can count on Sporting to help him get to the level that we know he can achieve... and maybe... maybe.. in 1 year time he could make a great comeback to United or he could become a very interesting player to other club..."

... and eventually both clubs found bases to an agreement.

The ironic part of the all thing is the fact that the deal was made by the ammount that DOYEN wanted.
DOYEN wanted 15M€ for them, but didn't care about Sporting interests.

This way, Sporting gets a player like Nani, a player that can make the difference in the Portuguese League, a player that will play in the Champions League, a player that wants to rebuild his confidence and his career.
This way, United gets Rojo, a player that the manager wants. This way, United delays a decision about Nani, a player that you don't want to see in an serious opponent, and if so, only by getting a good amount of money. Yes, United will pay his wages, but maybe, next season, he could become, again, the player United knows he can be... cause, with 27 yo, his prime is yet to come... and if his prime comes close to what he was with 23 yo, it will be something worth seeing.

NOW... about Marcos Rojo.
Came 2 years ago, with 22 yo, to Sporting, after a bad experience in Russia.
With Sporting the way it was, it was easy for him to get a place in the starting eleven.
He is a Left Back, but he always played as a Center Back in Sporting, because when he arrived we only had Tiago Illori (Liverpool), Eric Dier (Spurs) and Ruben Semedo, all of them, coming from the youth teams.
He was one of the few good thing in the worst season in the history of Sporting.
Last season, everything changed.
Sporting got a good partner for Rojo in the CB (Mauricio), and found a nice LB that helped a lot.
Eric Dier, the other CB of Sporting, came in whenever Rojo or Mauricio couldn't play.
Even so, Rojo was the best player of Sporting defense.

Rojo is by far, one of the best CB Sporting had in the last 10 years... and also, probably, the 2nd best LB in the last 10 years.
Fast, strong, with a good left foot.
He will not make wonders in the left side, but the opponent right winger will certainly not create wonders either.
The thing that people, in Portugal, accuse him for, is something that will be, imho, completely nonexistent in EPL: to much aggressiveness.
The Premier League will be the perfect league for Rojo. A League with physical contact, physical but fair.
He got carded many times in Portugal, but in Portugal everything is a card, and players are not fair to the game.
Those "bad" things we talk about Ronaldo and Nani, diving to much in the early years, was a reflection of a League that doesn't protect the game and protects those who are not truthful to the game.
Rojo plays every ball with his heart... he can go to far... but it's because he is trying to play.
I consider him an honest, hard player.
He will not be a leader, not right now. Maybe, he can become influential, but I'm not seeing the lad leading the squad. I'm seeing him doing his job well.
At Sporting the leader was Mauricio, the player was Rojo.
I do think that he becomes much better if he is surrounded by other defenders that can lead.
Every once in awhile, he will make a big mistake, but that will make him even better... he can react to bad moments.

At last... His he a smart and intelligent player?! I don't know. �:think:
I really don't know. I don't know what to think about this last sentence, but it's the truth.
Many times I ask myself: "Is this an intelligent player? Is he smart? Is he skillful?"
Rojo is skillful, strong, hard working, fair and a good team mate.... but after 2 years I can not say if he is intelligent in the field... maybe his quality as a player disguises the fact that he is not an intelligent player... or the other way arround.

24 years old?!
I imagine him with 26, 27 or 28 yo, and I think he can become a very, very good player...
... just give him the time United doesn't have...
... meaning, his development is not finished, but every time he had to rise one level, he did.
The fact that he got in the first 11 of the WC was not by chance. He is not the world best LB, but he can become a tremendous defender.


For last, the best...
I think that Rojo and Nani were not the only names on the table, in the negotiation between MUFC and SCP.
William Carvalho, surely, was mention several times.
I stand by the post I wrote in William topic.
Players like William come every 20 years... championships are won in the midfield, and in the midfield rules William Carvalho.
Some say he will go this season. I hope to see him dominating CL matches wearing the Sporting shirt. But like I've said, if he has to go, hopefully e will go to United.
This deal, Rojo at United, Nani at Sporting, United paying the wages of Nani for 1 season of loan... it smells... William... the most influential player I ever saw playing for Sporting, and he is only 21 yo.

What do you know about the club, the history, the players?
I know a lot about the club because I always follow the Premier League and Manchester United were always my team because they were the biggest and the best. Juan Sebastian Veron played for United and was a great player and I always watched his progress. United were always my club.

this deal reminds me a little of how i felt when we signed a hard looking Serbian defender from Russia a few years aback. he looked tough, but i wasn't sure what to expect ability wise.
