I think that the Kagawa fee was much to do with what Fergie mentioned way back, we often don't try and maximize profits for the good of the player.

We paid 17 million, they weren't going to pay the same, his stock had fallen since he joined us.

It could also be that we didn't want to play hardball with a club we would like to remain on good terms with in the future.

Yeah I completely get that, which is why I don't believe we will play hardball for Mata for a good fee either since he hasn't upset anyone.

The truly depressing scenario is Mata out to accommodate PHC as the attacking CM. Falcao and RVP will be ahead of PHC up top and due to the "commercial interests" of the club, PHC has to play somewhere. He cannot play as a wing back and he cannot play as a holding CM - leaves just one spot for that ginormous head to stand and watch the match ... CAM.

I know we usually get shafted (although I personally think 16M for Welbeck was good business) but the difference at this point in time is that Mata is far better known than Kags and is at least playing regularly and scoring goals.

Mata is a supremely talented player. It would be incredibly stupid to consider selling him in January.
There is such a thing as a player that is "Too good" for his teammates, kind of player that makes instinctive
moves and passes like a strike of lightening. There were many of Mata's passes that went begging because they were a bit heavy, or because someone did
not expect them to come at all. I think that will be very different this year once this group of players gets settled and in tune with each other.

TBH I see Mata scoring more goals than either RVP or PHC (Max tells me that is "Potato Headed Cunt", seems appropriate ) not to mention the
assists he will rack up with the players United will be attacking with.
He moves beautifully without the ball, and with half the defenders chasing Falcao around, Juan Two is going to find lots of open space, especially
with defenders trying to mark Falcao, and if he does, ADM or Ander will find him. Or else Mata will take that first touch and find one of the other
attackers flying through (That is why he is Juan-Two )

When I think of the players we have, not just starting XI but into the bench as well, top 4 doesn't seem like a good enough "dream" to me, I
look to top 4 and United pushing hard for top of PL table right up to the end of the season.

at this stage top 4 is the target. the least acceptable outcome but to be honest it's where we should be aiming. anything more is a bonus after last year.

What is up with the 'We only need one CAM'? What if Rooney gets injured, which he is likely to considering his age. Someone needs to cover that spot, and we got exactly that player: Juan Mata.

Then, since RvP, Rooney and Falcao won't play altogether, I don't think Mata will be left out.

And eventually, a bench equally good as your starting XI should be a requirement for Manchester United if they want to compete for the league, the cups, and Europe simultaneously.
