If he can retain the trust of the manager and keep his place in the team he could have a real good season for us and we will then, hopefully, hang on to him as he matures and improves...

Fortunately for him Matic being out could be his golden opportunity!

even when matic comes back, theres no reason Pereira shouldn't be getting plenty of game time. no way can matic play as many games as last year or as many minutes in a game.
he can also play on RW/RM. said it before and i'll say it again, he can be a KDB type player, or even a beckham. not rapid, but hes athletic and he has an incredible delivery. get him on that right side and he can whip balls in the box all day. the height of our team we should be getting on the end of something.

The fact that treebeard gets that jersey is like thinking Donald Trump will be president, oh shit. Wait a minute...

Is Pereira going to go the way of Januzaj and Wilson? A regime change screwed them, and whenever JM is replaced the new manager might do the same thing. I remember how both Januzaj and Wilson were talented and promising and needed game time - and maybe an arm around the shoulder. Pereira is the same. If he is considered behind Fele and McTominay and Herrera, not to mention further back in the pecking order as an attacking mid, what chance does he have? Don't think those 2 were screwed by anyone. Warren Joyce had some interesting words about Januzaj, Wilson and even Pereira. They simply lacked the work ethic to take the next step. Posted the article somewhere here. Will try to find it. EDIT: Found it. republikofmanc.proboards.com/post/725285/thread

I was going to say the same. I'll also add, that if your performance , work ethic, professional standards and determination are dependant on having an arm around your shoulder/feeling the love/etc. , you're not going to go very far in your career. Life's tough, toughen up I'd say. You've got to be self motivated .

Regardless, I think Pereira is a different case to those guys. He's worked his ass off on loan the last 2 seasons. The first season at a club fighting relegation where he had no problem doing his work defensively and getting stuck in.
I don't see how anyone would find it fair that he was completely dropped from the squad after the Brighton game. He was no worse than anyone else out on the pitch that day and that was in a position unfamiliar to him. No matter how much Jose thinks it's a better suited position for him.

Aye, he isn't mentioned there. Was thinking more about that thing he did with Januzaj in a Reserve's game, but that was down to a lack of maturity most likely. I do think he deserves a chance and he shouldn't have been dropped though.

Ronaldo was spurred on by Fergie acting like a dad more than a boss. Cantona was always given more leniency by SAF (the club jacket story springs to mind) and paid it back in spades.

If McTom gets more minutes than Pereira, then I give up on football.
And before anyone says anything, we all know Big Felli is getting game time, so not even gonna expect any different.

I don't see why it should be mutually exclusive, really, but who knows what Jose is thinking.
McT should be rotating with Matic, essentially the perfect mentor.
Pereira should be rotating with Herrera and/or Fred.

Wasn't this linked to when Andreas and Januzaj would take the piss and have competitions to see who could score direct from a corner in reserve games?
