PEREIRA THRILLED TO SCORE WITH RARE HEADER When Andreas Pereira pictured scoring his first senior goal for Manchester United, it is unlikely he'd have imagined it would be a header.
The free-kick expert has many strings to his bow but arriving in the box to nod in crosses has not been a regular part of his repertoire for the club's Under-18 and Under-21 teams. Last season's Reserve Player of the Year is certainly taking his big chance with both hands and his performance in the second tour match against San Jose Earthquakes drew praise from Louis van Gaal. After his pal Adnan Januzaj also uncharacteristically netted his first goal for the first team on tour with a header, against Kitchee in Hong Kong in 2013, Pereira was thrilled to profit from Jesse Lingard's excellent cross at the Avaya Stadium. "I'm very happy that I scored my first goal and we won the game," the Brazil Under-20 international told MUTV. "I think it's my first one [with my head] so I'm very happy to score my first header. "I think I have to do well to try to impress the manager, try to impress everyone, so I can continue with the first team and do well this season. I think it's important for me to play in different positions. If the boss tells me to play on the left or behind the striker, I play where he tells me to play so it's no problem for me." Van Gaal admitted his surprise at seeing Pereira, who operated in a central role, net in such circumstances but he was impressed by the execution and the build-up involving Ander Herrera and Lingard. "Yeah, it's remarkable," van Gaal laughed on MUTV. "I liked the goal of Pereira. It was a beautiful goal, a beautiful attack also, and he's not so big. But, at the right moment, there's the gap and the header is also very good. I like this goal but, of course, I like every goal that Manchester United can score!" www.manutd.com/en/Tour-2015/News-and-Features/2015/Jul/andreas-pereira-thrilled-to-score-with-rare-header-manchester-united-san-jose-earthquakes.aspx

The young man is a player, I think fans will see plenty of him. Definitely not afraid about being on the "big stage" just goes out and plays very lovely football. He is very smooth in his movements, deceptively fast

That is a big AYE Actually though, I honestly believe that we will be seeing a much kinder and gentler LvG than last season. Last season he was trying to make some major changes to the way the players had been playing football for pretty much their whole careers. At least in the case of ADM and Ander especially. Blind already was the kind of player LvG is looking for. This year, these players coming in are hand picked from LvG's list, and they play the kind of football that he is looking to have the team playing. I think LvG is going to be quite a bit more "relaxed" than he was last year. Watching him, he seems to be one that will play "tough" in public, but I bet there is as much smiling goes on in the training sessions as there is yelling. Watching Pereira, I think he pretty much fits the mould LvG is looking for dang near perfectly. Plays with his heads up, short, quick passing, maintains possession, and as small as he is, defenders are finding it very difficult to take the ball from him because he knows where his teammates are, and he gets rid of the ball quickly. He is young, and it is early in the season, but both teams he's played against have had some agressive defenders, and he has had his way with them. I think that will carry right over into the PL, can see him one of the top selections for young player of the year in the league

I just added the salary as an additive, they are by no means being "messed around" - they play for a club that has a manager, they'll do what he wants them to.

We all wanted herrera to play when he wasn't, a lot are worried he'll be the one to miss out now. I'd class that as dicking him around. Don't care what anyone else thinks about that either.

Can't remember his name...Pigboil or something like that... It's about trying to develop our younger players...and I'm sure you are all for that...

I'd like us to score 3 or 4 goals every game this season and play Pereira in the final 20 minutes of matches when we can't be caught and are up 4-0, and for him to get league cup and the odd start here and there. Keep him around the first team. Same with Wilson, Januzaj, and Lingard. I understand how difficult that call will be to make though, because in the first few matches if we are not clicking and dominating teams, players like those starlets above won't get any minutes. I really feel those 4 are on the verge of turning white-hot, and sitting on the bench won't do it. The difficultly is they aren't going to dislodge the players ahead of them anytime soon: Memphis, Herrera, Mata, Di Maria, Young, are all going to start ahead of them, and that's without further reinforcements arriving.

Sure did, and I was on LvG like bear on blueberries here too. Ended up eating crow. Funny thing was, Ander was a much better player for deciding to play within what LvG was asking of him. Seems to me that the only reason Ander was on the bench was he was a bit to quick to jump to make the great move, or the great pass, and lost he ball more than LvG liked. He still has the moves, (look at the "tricks video" on the United site, says it is Memphis moves, but for me, Ander did a couple things showed world class in them) still makes the great passes, but he also plays a bit more under control. Almost 3 tackles per match, and add to that almost 90 percent pass completion rate for last season, and the kid himself talks about how he improved, is going to continue to improve and wants to stay at United for his whole career. Would have to say that LvG and him came to understand each other, and I would bet that the Little Warrior doesn't feel like he was dicked about either. (Not trying to start a argument here, as I said, I was first to criticize LvG last season, but Ander's performance and his last interview surely validate the point that maybe LvG did one heck of a job of Man Management where he was concerned, because Ander is definitely playing for the badge, and the manager right now)

I don't recall that happening. I think it was assumed to be the reason, but in reality it might just be that LVG thought lumping it to Fellaini was a better strategy.
