Rio Ferdinand statement
Manchester United would like to express its deepest condolences to Rio Ferdinand after the news that his wife, Rebecca, sadly passed away last night.
In a statement on the Queens Park Rangers website, the former United defender said:
"My soul mate slipped away last night. Rebecca, my wonderful wife, passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
"She was a fantastic loving mother to our three beautiful children. She will be missed as a wife, sister, aunt, daughter and granddaughter. She will live on in our memory, as a guide and inspiration.
"Myself, my parents Janice and Julian, along with Rebecca's parents Lesley and Stephen, would like to thank our families, friends and my club colleagues who have rallied around in these desperate days, weeks and months.
"I would also like to express my gratitude for the dedication and expertise of the staff led by Professors Johnstone and Clarke at the Royal Marsden. Their valiant efforts to prolong Rebecca's all-too-short life will not be forgotten.
"Our grief, as a family, is total. We would appreciate being allowed to mourn privately."
The thoughts of everyone associated with Manchester United are with Rio and his family at this very difficult time.

First I've even heard she was ill. Absolutely shocked, and saddened.
So, so, devastated for Rio and his kids.
Actually pretty heartbroken.
RIP Rebecca Ferdinand.
We need to find a cure for this bastard disease.

Shocking news, and really hits home as my mrs lost her mum at 56 in February. Diagnosed in Jan, died end of Feb. Cunt of a disease, and really feel for Rio and his Kids.
RIP.

We all dream of playing for United or having millions in the bank and a lavish lifestyle when in reality we don't actually realise how lucky we are to just have good health.

Some things are bigger than football or rivalry. Doesn't matter who it is, the same level of respect should be shown. Wonder if they'll do something during the game later at OT for him. Would imagine the fans will do something even if its just to show respect to Rio. |
