Hoping for the same buddy. There is no reason why we should stop the pursuit of Schneiderlin, we certainly have room for two players. Youth players maybe? I don't trust both Carrick and Schweinsteiger to stay fit all season and we don't want a situation like last season where Carrick got injured the team played poorly.

CaajScot How do you think Danny reacted to this? He's always wanted a German to sign for Us. I expect he's over the moon. Danny who? lol Danny is an old friend of mine and Monty's buddy. A German guy living in Germany but is a fanatical Man United supporter. He had the name Red Army Germany on the old TR site until he left there like me and a few others. I think Danny will be over the moon Monty.

I really hope we still get Schneiderlin as well. I can see VG only needs to think of the next 2 years, but Schneiderlin could be our rock in midfield for the next 8 years

This is the kind of quality we've needed since the retirement of Roy Keane. Bastian has am abundance of quality and experience. This move has got me extremely excited.
I've been a fan of his for a very long time and I've always thought go on United, get him bought...... and now they have. Granted he's 30 years old but this boy is one heck of a footballer and we have brought to Old Trafford one of the best midfielders in the game.

So do we think the Swine will replace Fellaini? Either him or Herrera. Role-wise as opposed to simply personnel wise, then no. Schwein I assume will be a number 6, or a defense oriented 8. Either replace Carrick, or take Herrera role with Herrera pushing on or Di Maria taking the advanced role. If Mata has succeeded in cementing the 'false winger' role for LvG we do need to look for more pace in attack. One way to do that is to to get Di Maria central again, with a platform behind that LvG trusts to do the defensive work. I'm not sure quite how LvG views Herrera, he certainly built the trust in the 2nd half of the season but Fellaini had defensive qualities in the mix too. God knows if we get Schneiderlin too, but fuck me it would be nice to have that problem in midfield. On the actual move, kind of surprised to see him moving, thought he'd stay there for life. Hopefully this wont be a '5 years too late' deal. For those that see him a fair bit, what your prediction on him as he ages? Are we likely to get a solid few seasons as a sitting midfielder?

I am excited and cautious in equal measure. I have the same thought re 5 years to late. Hopefully he stays fit as the clock ticks on. Germans are ruthless and professional from the day dot so his attitude and desire will be spot on. His presence in our midfield will give us huge quality. No doubt about it.

He had 4 assists in the league last year so unless he had 26 in all other competitions that stat mentioned earlier is wildly incorrect.

www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jul/11/manchester-united-bastian-schweinsteiger-morgan-schneiderlin-louis-van-gaal?CMP=share_btn_twLouis van Gaal believes he is in pole position to make a double swoop for Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin to strengthen Manchester United’s midfield as he prepares for the summer tour of the US. The club fly out on Monday to Seattle and the manager is racing against time to try to complete the deals for Bayern Munich’s Schweinsteiger and Southampton’s Schneiderlin. Regarding Schweinsteiger, it is understood Bayern have accepted a bid of around £15m, with the 30-year-old Germany captain offered terms worth £140,000 a week over three years. Schweinsteiger, who has a year remaining on his Bayern contract, played under the United manager at the German club between 2009 and 2011, where they enjoyed a strong working relationship. After 13 years at Bayern Schweinsteiger believes now is the right time to move on. Van Gaal has had an offer of £20m rejected for Schneiderlin, with Ronald Koeman, the Southampton manager, valuing the Frenchman at £27m. However, United believe the player could be acquired for closer to £25m. One player the manager is certain will arrive is Matteo Darmian. The Torino right-back, who is to cost an initial £12.9m, is due to have a medical, Van Gaal confirmed. “Yes, I have read that in the papers,” said the manager. “That is true.”

I think Carrick played 18 league games and Schwein 20 league games so in theory if we rotate them then we get a full season out of both of them together
