This isn't the gin thread you horrible drink drinking freaks. Rules don't apply to me. I'm above that. I'm kind of a big deal.
Ban.

Anyone had Ben Bracken (Islay) from Lidl? Fuck me, for the princely sum of £17.99 it’s an absolute steal, better than Laphroaig, and I love Laphroaig, far smoother and more rounded. Think that they bring a 22 year old out near Christmas for £40, defo have a few of those.

You need to find a Lidl then.Aldi don’t do anything similar as far as I’m aware.Lidl sell 3,an Islay, Speyside and a Highland, all worth buying but the Islay is by far the best.

Seems there is a Lidl near where I work and I've just gone and bought a bottle...if it is anything like you say, it is a serious bargain... I'll give it a try maybe on Thursday and let you know what I think... One thing...it doesn't say anywhere how old it is...not a major issue if the taste is right but it a little odd...

Yep, no age on the bottle, but when you taste it, you (hopefully) won’t bother, the 22 released later this year will be well worth buying too.Let me know how you go on.

Gotta be honest, I was a little underwhelmed... Sorry and all that but it was no more than OK... I had a glass last night and my wife also tried it...not the greatest and she didn't finish hers...instead she polished off the last of my Lagavulin! Anyway, for the price, it was worth a try so thanks for the heads up...not sure what to do with the rest of the bottle... We are off for a week's holiday on the South Coast tomorrow and we'll probably take some Jura Superstition with us... I need another business trip so that I can restock the Lagavulin...

Did something different today. Poured my whiskey into a wine glass, and added a slight amount of water to it. I normally have it neat or with half an ice cube.
But what I did today was a game changer. The aromas, the taste, fantastic . I could have the same whiskey in an old fashioned glass and it would be completely different.

I could have the same whiskey in an old fashioned glass and it would be completely different. the real trick for the taste is the water though. i usually drink my whisky with water. first zip without water and then i add it, the changes are phenomenal. but by a little bit of water i really mean a tiny bit. the best way to do it is by using a pipette. that allows you to really add precisely only 1 or 2 drops. whisky is so fascinating by itself but even more when you have that chemical reaction that only a drop of water can create in the drink. it changes the whole picture of it and releases tastes and flavours that you never found before in the same whisky

Glenlivet 15 for £33 or the 18 for £50. Which one would be better value for money?
