Not long ago in a thread not too far away Ded brought up the idea of a whisky thread, so hey why not? Love to hear more the boards thoughts on the greatest of beverages. I'm partial to Scotch and Bourbon myself. Some of my favorites: Scotch - Springbank, Lagavulin, Caol Ila, Clynelish (I prefer the peatier ones) Bourbon - Woodford Reserve, Bookers, Blantons, Pappy Van Winkle I love both, prefer scotch. I think they both have their strong points. Bourbon has a sharper taste, hence I do my bourbon on the rocks but Scotch neat. Good drinking everyone do you choose your whiskies based on what tv people drink? lagavulin - ron swanson, parks and recreation pappy van winkle - the internship, owen wilson/vince vaughan used it to celebrate closing a sale i had the lagavulin 18yr once when out with work people (senior dude was paying) and it is honestly the worst thing I have ever tasted (bolded because it's completely personal taste). i finished a bottle of suntory hibiki 18yr one night with a friend of the fiancées, that was quite nice. if i'm drinking any though, i would go back to jameson's 12 yr. it's the most pleasant whiskey i've ever drank, and living directly across from the old distillery i guess there somewhat of an obligation.

I really like the JD single malt with a couple of rocks, more for the chinking noise! In Bali they have a coconut whisky called arrack, wowzer blowed my head off. In Sri Lanka it goes by the same name, but has an effect more like getting stoned... So I'm told...

Lol, I've not seen the internship. Seen some of parks and rec, never heard them mention Lagavulin, doesn't surprise me though, Swanson seems like an Islay person. Islays certainly aren't for everyone, for those who don't appreciate them I'm guessing it's like drinking a glass of iodine.

Another good Whisky is this baby. I was doing contracted security work in Wick, Scotland around 1997. I was working away from home and was booked into a bed & breakfast for two weeks (all paid for by Chubb Security I was working for at the time). I seen it in an off licence on a Friday night and bought a bottle as I had the weekend off. In that bed sit around 22.00hrs at night, stretched out on the bed watching tv. Was drinking it straight and I thought I would give my wife a ring in Edinburgh. I started nattering away to her for around 5 minutes non stop and then she said "You are drinking whisky, I can tell" My reply was "How the fuck did you know?". Her reply was short and sharp "Because you are pissed...I can't understand a word you are bloody saying. Ring me in the morning when you are bloody sobre", then hung up lol.

I love single malts . Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Glenkinchie , Singletons etc and other popular ones. Don't particularly like scotch, but I do have a glass of Chivas once in a while .
I've been trying to find a hidden jewel among the single malts of late, something not as well known as the ones listed above. Anybody have any recommendations?

Also how can you not give The Singleton it's full name? Dufftown man. It's just a funny word. Have you had The MaCallan? Well known, but it's my favourite whisky.

Sorry, I meant the blended scotch kind. I know almost all whiskeys are blended in some form or the other but I have always noticed a difference between the single malts and the blended scotch whiskies. You did exactly what I was trying not to do - type the whole name . No I haven't had The MaCallan. I will give that a try . Thanks for the recommendation. And I totally agree about the whisky rocks. They aren't too effective at cooling the whiskey but its better than watering the whiskey down.
