Longevity has to be a key ingredient when ultimately judging any player but if we are talking just about peak years then I think Ronaldinho has to be up there, those 3 years at Barcelona he was simply unplayable and the way he played was alien to a lot of people. He was really the only footballer I've seen who could take every street trick in the book and make it work on a football pitch and more importantly be very effective. That goal at Stamford bridge where he toe poked it around Cech is still one of my favourite goals, quickness of feet and mind. He was Barcelonas Cantona in my opinion. He lifted them out of the shit almost single handly at times.

Of the players I've actually seen from youth to peak..its has to be Messi, he was pure magic when he broke on to the scene.
I could say the same about Fat Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and C.Ronaldo, but what messi did with the ball at his feet was unbelievable imo.

Bergkamp. Too think that guy would not fly in a plane once after an incident happened when he was on a plane that scared the shite out of him and whenever Arsenal had an away match in Europe he would leave early and travel by car, coach or train just to play in the match.

Weirdly I've never been amazed by Messi. His consistency yes, probably the most consistent ever but on flashes of genius I'd have many above him and I prefer watching his two team mates at Barca.
Plus I believe without bias that his consitensy in largely down to the HGH. I thinj he's physically superhuman which makes no sense for someone who was too frail/ill to be a professional footballer. Can't understand why it's not an issue.

Taking a break from attacking players, Maldini would be in with a shout from a defenders perspective. Wonderful player, just stunningly good.

The usual arguments for the greatest footballers vary massively on thing like trophies won, how long they were at the top of their game etc. For example Ronaldinho's peak was a flash in the pan. I would never usually have him in the debate for the greatest ever. So I want to know who does everyone think was the best player ever at their absolute best, even if that was short, even if they won no trophies. Brazilian Ronaldo for me. Don't think there has ever been a better dribbler & that is my favourite attribute. I couldn't agree more! Ronaldo shot equally well with his left & right foot, had incredible speed and acceleration, amazing dribbling, and was a scoring machine. When he began on a run he was essentially difficult to stop, he was most defenders worst nightmare during that time. He was those kind of players that you want to slide tackle so bad but you just couldn't. He would dodge you with such class that is seldom been found in the realm of Football. He earned his nickname of "Phenomenon" because that's exactly what he was!
