| FOOTBALL NEWS27/05/2016 21:46, Report by Adam Marshall DREAM DEBUT FOR MARCUS RASHFORD Marcus Rashford enjoyed a dream senior debut for England, scoring two minutes and 18 seconds into his first cap, with Wayne Rooney blasting the eventual winner in a 2-1 triumph over Australia in Sunderland.
Rashford mirrored Rooney in making his bow against the Socceroos and took no time to introduce himself to Roy Hodgson's side. After passing to Raheem Sterling, he found space to latch onto the Manchester City man's cross when it looped into the air and, watching it drop, the 18-year-old volleyed past keeper Matt Ryan. It means he is the youngest-ever scorer on his England debut, beating Tommy Lawton's record that has stood since 1938, and the third-youngest marksman for the Three Lions behind Rooney and Michael Owen. Rashford was unable to accept a chance of a second from a Sterling pass on the break but he did supply a wonderful ball to Adam Lallana that the Liverpool man failed to convert. The teenager's 63 minutes on the pitch were so impressive, he earned the Man-of-the-Match award as he showed plenty of neat touches and attacking flair. Rooney came off the bench at the interval and smashed in the second goal on 55 minutes, with Rashford's dummy a feature of the build-up and Sterling again providing the assist. The United skipper looked lively in attack and was unlucky not to profit from a dangerous Rashford cross. The Reds' other representative, Chris Smalling, captained the team from the off and performed well at the heart of the defence before appearing to pick up a knock and leaving the field on 73 minutes. Smalling’s replacement, Eric Dier, put through his own goal to halve the hosts’ lead. England's next match is on Thursday against Portugal and Hodgson must name his Euro 2016 squad before then with Rashford, who was afforded a standing ovation by the Stadium of Light crowd, now difficult to leave out. www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2016/May/dream-england-debut-for-marcus-rashford-and-rooney-also-scores.aspx

Some of this from the F365 mailbox is brilliant. www.football365.com/news/is-marcus-rashford-the-new-franny-jeffers…Okay, I’m going to say it…it’s hard not to like Marcus Rashford but I don’t think he’s actually very good. Poor touch, indecisive, lacks acceleration and not a natural goalscorer. Touch of the Franny Jeffers in my opinion. Matt Pitt He is not a gifted technician, he’s not super quick or great with the ball at his feet and despite the fact that he does seem calm and effective in front of goal, to me he looked way out of his depth and a yard off the pace. I think that there is a strong chance he’ll move from Utd to a much smaller club having not made the grade at some point and we’ll be utterly baffled as to how he nearly made it into a Euros squad at the age of 18. | FOOTBALL NEWS30/05/2016 13:30, Report by Communications Department RASHFORD SIGNS NEW DEAL Marcus Rashford has signed a new contract at Manchester United which keeps him at the club until at least June 2020 with an option to extend for a further year.
Rashford,18, came through the ranks of our academy and was handed a first-team debut for the Europa League game against Midtjylland. He grabbed his opportunity with both hands by scoring twice, a feat he remarkably repeated three days later on his first league appearance against Arsenal. Marcus has made 17 appearances and scored 8 goals. Executive vice chairman Ed Woodward said: "Marcus is a naturally talented footballer with great potential. He has taken his chances well and has integrated into the first team very quickly. I am delighted that Marcus has signed a new contract, he is at the right club to continue his development. He is still very young and we need to be patient but he is developing in the right way and we believe he has a great future ahead of him." Marcus Rashford said: "I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I have always been a Manchester United fan, so to be playing in the first team really is a dream come true. I am grateful for having the chance to prove myself. To be able to play football at the biggest club in the world means everything to me and my family." www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2016/May/marcus-rashford-signs-new-contract-with-manchester-united.aspx

When you stop for a second and think about his rise, it's up there with Leicester winning the league as one of the footballing stories of the season. From u18's to making the England squad for the Euro's in what? 6 months?
He's a fantastic talent and seems to have a great attitude. Hope he doesn't let all this go to his head and he continues to work hard because there's so much more to come from him. Which is frightening when you consider just how comfortable he looks already. So quick, so calm in front of goal, superb movement, great at holding up the ball and bringing others into play, stronger than you'd think and just an all round intelligent and natural striker. Plus he's a local lad and United fan.
