One of the spoilt generation started supporting Manchester United aged 8 around 1993/4 because I liked the way they played. And boy what a team they had in those days...Schmeichel, Bruce, Pallister, Irwin, Ince, Keane, Giggs, Kanchelskis, Cantona, Hughes.
Then in the 90s you had Fergie's fledglings and even in the relatively lean early years of last decade I used to love watching Ruud bang them in and seeing Rooney and Ronaldo develop into the real deal.
That was the wonder of Ferguson his ability to rebuild and create great team after great team. The saddest thing is that he allowed so much mediocrity to creep in during his final years without really passing on the torch to his successor so much as a poisoned chalice. Players like RVP, Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Rio, Vidic and Evra got us that last sweet Premier League trophy but there was no genuine plan to replace them aside from the Jones-Smalling defensive duo which never really bore fruit with only Smalling FINALLY beginning to show what Fergie saw in him.
Then of course Moyes and Van Gaal!
But I am hopeful for the future. I think a small dose of Mourinho is what the club needs to get it out of its post Fergie funk and instill a winning attitude in many of our players who are quite frankly a bit soft!
Favourite players are: Herrera, Martial, Schweisteneger and De Gea.
Really not a fan of
Fellaini, Mata, Depay, Jones and gone off
Rooney a bit which is a shame because I used to love watching him at his peak when it always felt as if he moved us up a gear when he played.
