so do we have any pure CB's to backup Smalling and Bailly apart from Rojo (who is gone himself) and Jones (equally as likely to go. I know Blind is there but he's also not really a CB by any means. Not too happy with us selling off all our youth since McNair and Blackett actually showed some promise (more upset about losing Blackett though in truth) TFM has played almost all his football to date at CB. that is true we do have fosu-mensah still, he's going to get a lot of gametime this season along the back line at least.

I had highest hopes for Blackett out of anyone on this board but the last 18 months have shown he isn't good enough, and that McNair is light years ahead of him.

Also, why do people keep saying Blind isn't a CB, that he'll be found out against the big sides etc? He's played all last season at CB and made about as many mistakes as you'd expect from a top CB in any season, hardly any. People will use the fact Utd dominated possession last year but we didn't against Leicester. Was he troubled by the title holders? No. We might not like his size but the guy is more than capable of playing there. And it was interesting to see that Jose thought as much with Mike not playing on Sunday. He picked Blind, not Jones.

He can play CB and reasonably well but the fact is his main position is as a Defensive midfielder (and a bloody good one at that). Either way he is good depth to have (and in my opinion makes fellaini's involvement aside from his height, redundant).

I thought Blind was every bit as good as Bailly vs Leicester. In fact I thought they complemented each other really well. He's such a superb passer of the ball as well and made some brilliant, crisp passes out from the back that cut straight through their midfield. I think a lot of fans still really underestimate just how good a player he is because he can play multiple positions. He's one of my favourite players at the club.

If anyone wants a laugh look at how bitter the Sunderland fans are towards us on this tweet how are we missing out on the 4 again. we barely missed out this season (not nice to put it down to 2 people but i will, you can thank rooney and LVG for missing out on 4th).

Haha I've edited. The tweet I posted was a terrible example as a United fan was baiting themy!

I don't think Blind is a natural centre half. Against Leicester it was as all but a friendly match. I will be very surprised if Jose has him anywhere near starting at CB in important PL matches. All opinion of course. Blind is a tremendous footballer that has been educated in football to the highest standard. I still feel he lacks physical presence to establish himself as a top centre half in the PL. I will be more than happy to correct myself if he proves me wrong.
