Put up with him because he gets made an integral part of the side by managers, so it's in our best interest for him to play well but he shouldn't be getting in our starting 11 anymore, especially if we bring in another cm. He was appalling for huge chunks of last season and only came on a little towards the end. Aye but that coming on towards the end led to our FA Cup win. I rate Mata and Herrera but they've been far from convincing when called upon, I'm not saying we have to accommodate Roo but picking the team now he'd be there on merit. I guess it's just me who is quite looking forward to Zlatan, Jose and possibly Micky pushing Roo and a fired up Wayne is a player worth having. A top notch CM would push him to the brink but until then... I am usually not the one to quote chapter and verse from the Gospel According to Fergie, and while he made plenty of mistakes in the transfer market, the one thing he rarely got wrong was knowing when a player was past it and needed to be shipped out. If Fergie had managed one more summer, Rooney would have been sold, and Fergie, once again, would've been spot on. The fact that lesser lights such as Moyes, LvG and Hodgson have tried to shoe horn him into the squad/team to placate the media/uninformed public doesn't mean he's worthy of that place.

No he didn't and he wasn't. He contributed, which is a nice change. That's it. Which doesn't excuse three years of dross and five years of overall decline. Some contribution is better than nothing. Top goalscorer and provider, yeah you're right he's shit.

It doesn't help that the media, particularly ex-pro pundits, keep banging on the Rooney drum. Every time he's not objectively awful, twats like shearer and Murphy talk him up like he's in line for the Ballon d'Or. It's almost like they've taken a backhander.

I'm not disagreeing with you on Sir Alex and he more than likely wouldn't be at the club, probably be at Mou's Chelsea of all places. With Moyes and LVG at the helm would we have been better off without him, that we do not know, given the way we've gone I doubt it.

Nope - that was Mata His last contribution to our fa cup win was his goal in the 4th round. Fellaini, Mata, Lingard & Martial all scored the same amount of goals as him. Anything else you would like to offer in his defence?

I defended Rooney on here for a long time partly because of the player he was and because he was the best of a bad lot. Now however we have much better attacking options now so Rooney is surplus to requirements up top and he just simply isn’t good enough be win it for us in midfield. I mean don’t get me wrong he had put in some decent performances for us in midfield but at no point have I looked at him and thought to myself we are going to win the title with Rooney in the middle. He lacks pace, rarely threads a ball through and struggles to find the target from outside the box. I think that he could do a job for a team like West Ham, Everton etc but we will not win the title with Rooney in midfield.

As for the fa cup, what exactly was his contribution other than playing? Cos he didnt provide any assists.

Do you remember that run he made to provide the equaliser for Mata in the final, when all others looked clueless Rooney made it happen.

Then I call Scouse. Only someone who wants us to be shit would think Rooney has any worth to the team.
