I have to say Rooney really is just a waste of a squad place now. There's not one position I think he SHOULD be starting in, nor is there one I think he should be sitting on the bench as back up for. If we bring in a central midfielder there shouldn't be a place for him. He's not in our top 2 strikers, number 10's or midfielders.
Amongst all the shit Moyes did, his handling of Rooney is by far the worst thing he did and the thing which is still fucking us over more than anything to this day. And that's including Fellaini! Changing your tune Jamie, come on now. Strikers not now with Ibra, Martial and Rashford. 10/Mids he's hanging on for now Put up with him because he gets made an integral part of the side by managers, so it's in our best interest for him to play well but he shouldn't be getting in our starting 11 anymore, especially if we bring in another cm. He was appalling for huge chunks of last season and only came on a little towards the end.

I love Juan, wouldn't really like to see him playing against us in the league. The Everton rumours originate from Twitter ITK's so at this point I'd doubt them very much and he can do much better than them anyway. Our squad is pretty small compared to the days of Sir Alex though then again Mourinho doesn't tend to rotate a huge deal so I think it'll be of similar size to last season. Our bench being something like Romero, TFM, Carrick/Basti, Herrera, Memphis, Lingard, Rashford. I'm not sure there's many game changers/options there so... again though as is there would more game time for Rashford, Timbo et al in different positions. Once Micky is over the line I'd expect one or two more at least and then a few out. Mata is at risk but I'd like to see him with Mkhitaryan, Martial/Memphis/Lingard in a three behind the striker, perhaps we will in pre season. Fellaini, Rojo, Young the others, possibly Darmian and Blind I'm a little worried for but we'd be crazy to get rid of him. I know Mourinho doesn't rotate but when our players are dropping like flies surely he'll rotate when we're playing all over Europe.

Rooney really isn't in our top 2 strikers or top 3 midfielders. An argument could be made for #10, especially if Mata is sold, but we may not even be using a 10 next season. Rooney is increasingly looking like the odd man out.

I'm sick of having to think of teams in which I have to accommodate Rooney. In the past I've said I'd keep him because we have a side seriously lacking experience but with Ibra being brought in, combined with Basti and Carrick that factor has Wayned.
Yes, he played alright towards the end of the season and put in some decent displays in midfield. That doesn't change the fact he probably shouldn't have been in there in the first place and if LVG had settled Herrera and Morgan in properly and let them build an understanding they wouldn't have underperformed as much when picked, which made Rooney seem more important than he was.
If we're serious about bringing Pogba in or any other cm for that matter I really don't see where Rooney fits in. Like Monty I believe and hope we don't play with a number 10 next season anyway. Even if we do he's still not in the top 2, Micky and Mata are both better than him as out and out number 10's.

We as fans can't compromise on that.

Mata is a goner and hope he can find a new club before players report back to training, so the awkwardness can be avoided.
Everton want our Juan? 50m GBP or no cigar. Clubs from abroad can have him for 30-35m Euros.

GK - Romero
Defenders - Rojo, Jones if we can get an exp CB in
Midfielders - Oaf, Young, Mata
C**ts - you know who!
Squad
GK - DDG, Johnstone
Def - Big Tim, Tony, Mike, Bailly, Jones*, Shaw, CBJ, Darmian
Mids - Morgan, Basti, Blind, Pogba, Ander, Pereira
Widemen - Martial, Micki, Memphis, Lingard, Adnan
Forwwards - Ibra, Rash, Wilson
Jose is not too hot for this whole squad rotation. A squad of 23-25 with little to no deadwood sounds good to me.

I rate Mata and Herrera but they've been far from convincing when called upon, I'm not saying we have to accommodate Roo but picking the team now he'd be there on merit. I guess it's just me who is quite looking forward to Zlatan, Jose and possibly Micky pushing Roo and a fired up Wayne is a player worth having. A top notch CM would push him to the brink but until then...

Which doesn't excuse three years of dross and five years of overall decline.
