Bailly:
"It is a dream come true to be joining Manchester United. To play football at the highest level is all I have ever wanted to do.
"I want to progress to be the best that I can be and I believe working with Jose Mourinho will help me develop in the right way and at the right club. I am looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and to starting this new chapter of my life."
Mourinho:
"Eric is a young central defender with great natural talent. He has progressed well to date and has the potential to become one of the best around.
"We look forward to working with him to help nurture that raw talent and fulfil his potential. Eric is at the right club to continue his development."

"Eric is at the right club to continue his development."
At what other club other than Porto that he's managed, could he have made that statement?

How have people not heard of a Centre Half who played for the 4th best team in La Liga? My cousin who lives in Castellon just down from Villarrreal's stadium said he heard that United scouted Bailly extensively since 2014 when he was at Espanyol. He grabbed our attention at Espanyol, when he moved on to Villarrreal (replacing Gabriel who went to Arsenal) is when we really took notice. Apparently we had a scout/ representatives at every game he played on La Liga, also he's known to be a sound lad all round, quiet shy but blessed with great ability. We knew his attitude was right. Been talking with my cousin on the blower for the past half hour or so..

He's made 2 apps at both RB & LB & 48 at CB.
Can we knock any fullback talk on the head please?

Happy with his signing, though I hope we still get an experienced CB. Sell Rojo and tell Jones he's in the last chance saloon this season, then have a CB pool of: Smalling, experienced CB, Bailly, Jones, Blind and academy player(s) e.g. Tuanzabe. Blind realistically would mostly play elsewhere and Jones would probably be crocked so academy players would still get gametime.

He should get plenty of gametime, and then we can shut up the #JoseHatesYouth brigade.

How have people not heard of a Centre Half who played for the 4th best team in La Liga? By not paying any attention whatsoever to La liga presumably. I'd heard his name but knew nothing about him at all.

I'm not saying I'm on the #JoseHatesYouth train at all, but a few words at a press conference mean nothing. He should get plenty of gametime, and then we can shut up the #JoseHatesYouth brigade. The first signing of his career at Old Trafford being a 22yr old CB, notably the hardest position to master at such a young age, for £30M says more than a sentence in a press conference. They're already shut up in my mind.

Good luck to him! Great to see activity so early in the summer!
He seems like a Jose-esque CB to me - strong and fast. He's also still very young, I hope most fans will be patient with him if(/when) he makes mistakes.

| FEATURES08/06/2016 13:00, Report by Mark Froggatt PROFILE: ERIC BAILLY'S ROAD TO UNITED Here’s all you need to know about Manchester United’s imposing new centre-back... Eric Bailly has completed his transfer to Old Trafford from Villarreal, the Spanish club where the Ivory Coast international enjoyed a meteoric rise after making his La Liga debut in October 2014. The stage is now set for the 22-year-old defender to ascend under the guidance of new manager Jose Mourinho, adding further chapters to his increasingly remarkable story. THE BEGINNING
Bailly was born in Bingerville, Ivory Coast, also home to Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony, and his quality as an aspiring footballer was spotted by Spanish side Espanyol during a youth tournament held in Burkina Faso. He was signed by the Catalan club in December 2011 and joined their youth system at 17, but it was 10 months before he received a work permit that would enable him to play. Once his papers had arrived, he became a regular in the Espanyol B team, playing under the name of Eric Bertrand, until deciding to use his mother’s surname, Bailly, instead. Having caught the eye of first-team boss Sergio Gonzalez, Eric sampled his first taste of professional football during a 2-0 La Liga win over Real Sociedad before registering his first start in a 1-1 draw with Villarreal, who quickly showed just how impressed they were by the young defender they had faced. JOINING VILLARREAL
In January 2015, Bailly moved to Villarreal for a reported fee of £4.4million as a replacement for the Arsenal-bound defender Gabriel Paulista. It was claimed that Espanyol did not want to sell their rough diamond but essentially had no other choice due to the club’s financial problems at that time. INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
Bailly’s first big transfer was completed during the 2015 African Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, where he made six appearances as The Elephants reached the final and drew 0-0 with Ghana. That led to a dramatic penalty shootout and Bailly bravely stepped up in the ninth round of penalties to score his spot-kick. After two more Ivorian goals, his ecstatic team-mates were crowned champions of Africa. PROGRESS AT ESTADIO EL MADRIGAL
Although his start at Villarreal was slow, making 12 appearances as he competed with centre-backs Mateo Musacchio, Victor Ruiz and Daniele Bonera from January to May, he became a regular starter throughout 2015/16. This was his breakout season as he started 25 La Liga games in a team that conceded only 35 goals, as the Yellow Submarine finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League. Bailly also featured heavily in Villarreal’s Europa League campaign and made seven appearances, including one against Liverpool in the semi-final. Injury ruled him out of the decisive second leg at Anfield when Jurgen Klopp’s Merseysiders secured progress to the final. THE FUTURE
Following his transfer to United, the future appears to be bright for Bailly as he bids to impress new manager Jose Mourinho. A role at centre-back looks most likely, but the Ivorian can also play at right-back and his versatility could prove to be crucial. Either way, exciting times are ahead. www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Features/2016/Jun/Profile-of-new-Manchester-United-signing-Eric-Bailly.aspx
