Henrikh Mkhitaryan is battling to save his Manchester United career after being dropped by Jose Mourinho following a row between the two men during a video analysis session at the club's Carrington training ground last month, sources have told ESPN FC. Mkhitaryan, 28, has been absent from seven of United's last eight matchday squads and sources at Old Trafford have confirmed that the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder angered Mourinho by disagreeing with the manager's assessment of his contribution during a substitute appearance against Brighton on Nov. 25. Mourinho was unhappy with Mkhitaryan's defensive work rate and a mistake made by the player, singling the Armenian international out for criticism in front of the rest of the first-team squad. Mkhitaryan responded to his manager's remarks, with the player continuing to debate Mourinho's assessment of his performance in the corridor outside the analysis suite at Carrington. Sources told ESPN FC in September that Mourinho was unhappy with Mkhitaryan's contribution against United's top-six rivals, but the player appeared to have overcome his manager's reservations by making an impressive start to the season with two goals and five assists in all competitions. However, Mourinho was unimpressed by Mkhitaryan's performance against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge at the beginning of November and has not selected him to start since. When asked on Wednesday why Mkhitaryan had not been in his plans recently, Mourinho said: "I can only have six [outfield] players on the bench and I try to have some balance on the bench -- I had two defenders and [Daley] Blind who can play in different areas. I had Ashley Young to cover me all of the wing and the wing-back position. "I had [Ander] Herrera as a midfield player, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] as a striker and Marcus [Rashford] as a second striker and winger. I played [Anthony] Martial, [Juan] Mata and [Jesse] Lingard in the team. To have Micki means that I don't have one of them and, in this moment, I believe the other ones they deserve [the chance to play]." Inter Milan are keen to sign Mkhitaryan, who signed for United in July 2016, and could offer Portugal midfielder Joao Mario in an effort to negotiate a deal when the transfer window opens next month. www.espn.co.uk/football/manchester-united/story/3312364/henrikh-mkhitaryan-man-united-future-in-doubt-after-jose-mourinho-row-sources

Shame though... I had such high hopes... We need a replacement in Jan though...far too light in this area... I didn't. Not surprised in the slightest. Called it. Whole thing was probably a Woodward PR stunt for Eastern European markets/Raiola buttering up exercise for Pogba. Doubt that. He was voted POTY in the Bundesliga and I genuinely really rated him. It's not like we signed some mug, there were genuine football reasons behind it. Read the majority of the posts when we signed him. (I do know you and a few others called it tbf) He was a bit soft but he also looked like he would be that creative spark we missed so badly. I'm really disappointed at how this has turned out. I'm looking forward to when we sign a perma-crocked Bale instead, cheers Ed.

Take Bale off their hands and help fund their next prospect. Probably one that we should be bidding for instead of letting Ed have his next Galacticrock?

What is it with players from Dortmund and not settling in the PL?
He seems to be a broken man, clearly super self-aware to how poorly he is playing and that his days at the club are most likely numbered. Who knows though? Maybe Jose will want to give him another chance before selling him in the summer.. hope he can prove everyone wrong.

What a waste. Sell for Dybala clubcard points. This Liked Miki when he arrived, just doesn't seem same player to me any longer. Problem seems to be attitude, and IMO that isn't something that can be corrected , except possibly rookies.

McTominay should be getting game time ahead of Mkhitaryan.

McTominay should be getting game time ahead of Mkhitaryan. They play in completely different positions. It's like saying Axel should be getting game time ahead of him.
