He was a bit average. Not that it matters at this stage. If I'm being honest Lukaku looked exactly like the Lukaku I'd seen every time I saw Everton and people had said he was good. He was the same, no better, no worse. He's a big unit though. I don't expect Lukaku to improve after one week of being in the team. I think when the starting XI is in place Lukaku will operate well at the top as a traditional 9. It's almost impossible to read anything at all into anyone's performance tonight, the first friendly against the reserves of a team sitting in 8th place in the Western Conference of the MLS. It was a fun kickaround for everyone, and that's all that really matters, I guess. And I know weetomsligaments was being ironic, I almost made the same post but you know how irony reads on the 'net. The main takeaway from tonight's game was that those collars and the snap button thing look fucking stupid. I counted 3 passes that Lukaku does not make if he is playing a PL side. He looked the new guy trying to pass when he needed to shoot. Otherwise, I rather enjoyed the LA defender bouncing off him - think it was Ashley Cole - and Lukaku did not break stride. He will be hard to stop once he finds his legs and you just know Pogba will do everything in his power to make Lukaku a success.

cant really say much about it but their keeper looked shocking. 1st game of the season though so good to get a good run out and off the mark. we looked good pressing high up the pitch though.
I think rashford will be our main man this year, not lukaku. I would also be open for them playing 3-5-2. the beauty of it with the team we are building we have plenty of options.
for the first game, they all looked in good physical condition.

Very enjoyable for a first run out, some nice football played at times (albeit against no opposition). The commentators were doing my head in though, raving about how good we were. Really? Against a poor US team's second string? Would expect nothing less.

Really enjoyable game and a good start to pre-season. Marcus was the standout in the first half for obvious reasons. Despite the 2nd half team technically drawing 2-2 I think there were more standout performances. Tuanzebe equipped himself very well, as did A.Pereira. Martial and Mkhi also looking very lively, here's hoping they find their top form this season.
I quite like the prospect of 3-5-2, although I'm not sure whether this is Jose's plan for the future or just the easiest way, as he saw it, to get minutes for the whole squad.

Pereira playing in the deeper midfield role. Lovely footballer. Looking forward to seeing more of him this year

He explained the system in his press conference. Really pleased with that. If we sign a DM I maintain 4-3-3 will make the most sense for us, and I wouldn't like 3 at the back every week with our current cb selection, but having 3-5-2/3-4-1-2 as an option to use when necessary is smart.

Rom, Martial and Rashford in a 3 man attack could (could mind) be the stuff of carnage for opposition back 4s. Size, pace, power, dribbling.

I quite like the prospect of 3-5-2, although I'm not sure whether this is Jose's plan for the future or just the easiest way, as he saw it, to get minutes for the whole squad. Fortunately this part of the narrative was skipped by the Daily Mail et al. The two halves were really Match A and Match B. I think there was 1 player from the Galaxy, Garcia, who played the 1st half and started the 2nd. So our eleventy billion dollar/pound team drew 2-2 with the Galaxy starting XI. Obviously if we hadn't already been up by 3 we would have played differently and with more urgency. This current Galaxy side, however, is not good, not even by Galaxy standards. Dos Santos and Cole are the only 2 players of any quality. Robbie Keane is gone, the midfield was gutted to afford Steven Gerrard a place to play, and they switched from Bruce Arena as manager to a guy, Curt Onalfo, who seems pretty clueless. Hard to even guess what level this current team would be playing at in England, they're so hard to watch. And we drew 2-2.
