i first watched United at Spurs in October 1964. We beat them 3-2. From memory Law and Graham Moore((2) got the goals. I've lived in the south all my life but have always supported United. My mum was born and raised in Salford; Murray Street in Higher Broughton, opposite The Cliff. I had lots of relatives in Pendleton and my mum always said we would move up there but we never did. My earliest hero was Denis Law and he still is, to be honest. As you get older it's hard to worship the players like you did as a kid but my recent favourites have been Keane and Cantona. I don't feel the same about any of the modern players, though I like to see Rashford and Lingaard in the team as they represent the youth of the area. My personal United highlights are; 1) being at West Ham in 1967 when we beat them 6-1 to clinch the League. 2) 1985 Cup Final after Moran was sent off. Best atmosphere I can remember. 3) Cantona going into the crowd at Palace. 4) 1996 Cup Final. No explanation needed. 5) 1999 Barcelona. Couldn't get in but watched in a bar in Sitges after hanging round the stadium trying to get tickets. Probably the maddest day of my life. I still go from time to time. I went to Vigo for the 1-0. To be completely honest as much as I still love United it's hard to feel the same way about the game generally. Glazers etc. All that money slushing around and kids across the country don't have decent pitches, changing rooms or proper coaching. I can't stand the Englandbteam. Never have after Denis Law said he hated them. My favourite teams are Argentina and Italy. Best player I ever saw in the flesh? Mara Dona for Sevilla in December(?) 1992 against Rayo Vallecano, I believe. He scored a penalty. He was overweight and spent the whole game jogging alongside the ref telling him what to do.
