Martial will start on the left. and probably not do much. then rashford comes in and scores. i wont mind if that story continues Hopefully they'll both contribute towards goals then on Sunday we'll finally get to see. Martial - Lukaku - Rash...nah its not fucking happening is it.

I’m on a road trip down the Great Ocean Rd with friends from Manchester. We won’t have access to see this one, so no doubt it will be a great game with loads of goals (cos that’s how “Sods Law” works, isn’t it?!) Enjoy, guys and gals!

Dave
Darmian Bailly Smalling Shaw
Herrera McTominay
Lingard Mata Martial
Lukaku
Would like to rest Jones, Valencia, Matic and Rashford for Chelsea. McTominay has looked assured so far and it's at home with not really any pressure on us to go get a result.
Young can have a rest too surely Shaw can be used even just for that reason

Win please. Then all we have to do is get a point in Switzerland and we’ll top the group. Ideally a few players rested for Sunday, but a win here allows a rest further down the line in December when it will be more necessary, so if we have to put out the strogest team possible so be it.
I think Chelsea will prioritise Roma over us as well, so if we play our first xi here we can be happy at least that they’ll probably do the same.

Shaw to be right back one half, left back the other half, depending on which way we're playing so Jose can talk him through the full 90 minutes? Or 3 minutes plus stoppage time at the end?

Didn't he travel to Portugal for our last game but didn't even make the bench? Every chance it'll be a similar scenario tonight. Hopefully he does at least make the bench though and gets some more minutes. Think even the fans who have been the most critical of him are willing him to do well, everyone knows there's a real player in there.

sportwitness.co.uk/former-sir-alex-ferguson-signing-says-ready-time-young/Bebé. How could we possibly forget him? Signed by Manchester United in a mysterious £8m transfer in 2010, the Portuguese winger caught the attention. It didn’t quite work out for him at Manchester United, from where he was loaned out several times. In 2014, Bebé was sold to Benfica, Manchester United’s opponents tonight in the Champions League. Portuguese newspaper Record have spoken to Bebé, as a man who knows both clubs well, and he claims the Eagles have all the conditions to get an away victory at Old Trafford. “I believe that Benfica have the capacity to win,” Bebé told Record. “It will be very difficult because Manchester United are very strong and have made good games at home. They are in a good moment, unlike Benfica. But Rui Vitoria has a good team and can win at Old Trafford. “Playing in the Champions League at Old Trafford is different, of course. The stadium atmosphere is very good, the supporters are always supportive of the team and they give confidence to the players. It’s a ground where all players dream of playing one day.” Asked about the Manchester United players who are a threat for Benfica, Bebé said: “At Manchester United it is difficult to choose because anyone can decide the game. Lukaku, at the front is very strong and has scored many goals. There is still Martial, who also unbalances a lot, and Mata. “Matic brings the midfield to life and Herrera and Fellaini have also been doing very well. It will be an interesting game, calmer for Manchester United and more difficult for Benfica, who will have to attack to leave with points.” Bebé was also asked about Victor Lindelof, who he says that will still succeed at Old Trafford: “He is, without a doubt, a great player. He’ll get his place in the team. It’s going to be difficult but he will.” Finally, the player had a say on his own time at the Premier League club: “About Manchester United I don’t have much to say except that it was a good experience. I was very young and I can say that maybe I didn’t go at the right time. But things are like that and we have to take the opportunities. Life goes on, but if it was now it would be different, for sure. “I am already grown up and the way of playing is completely different. I played for Manchester United without any pressure because I just wanted to enjoy football, as I do today. I just had to be happy.” After his spell at Benfica, the 27-year-old was sold to Eibar in 2016.

Bit of a needless comment? Feels like there’s starting to be a trend here. Maybe it’s being taken out of context.
(For the record, I thoroughly enjoyed the Spurs game - being there helps, but we certainly weren’t anything like we were at Anfield, so not sure where this is coming from on either the fans’ side or Jose’s.)

Our youngsters have always played in big games and done well or handled the challenge. We need a result against Chelsea. We have players coming back soon so they will be able to bolster the squad in December etc too.
