Media this morning going on about Lingard's goal (rightly so), but calling it a goal of the season contender is a bit much. I thought Young's first was the best of the night. The touch on the bounce to get it it away from the defender then on the half volley drilling it in at the near post. I love those sorts of goals.
Although all four of our goals were superb.
EDIT: Nice to be talking like this after a game again, isn't it? Way better than scraping past teams. We should do it more often.

One or two performances haven't been great but in the main I've found Utd to be pretty entertaining (and bloody effective) this season. And we're still 1 top player short so I think we are pretty well set up for the future.

Really nice to see Ashly Young getting a brace. He certainly seems to be making the wingback roll his own. All of our goals were really good goals. It’s making for enjoyable viewing compared to the ‘wilderness’ years 😀👍 Looking forward to the Arsenal match now 🍺😎👍

Given Tony and Ash are both 32, and how critical they are to how we're currently set up, we'll be spunking about £100m on replacing them pretty soon.
or just buy Sessegnon for about 20M now and save £30m on one slot.

Perfect game after some recent performances. lots of great goals and exciting match. Young was excellent obviously, but I thought Martial centrally had a really good game also. Pogba didn't really look sharp to me and Ibra can't run. I really think Martial should be used centrally more with Lukaku they could run riot. If Martial had taken that pass from Rashford second half he would have scored
I thought the defence was excellent and up to the point when Rojo who had a good game had a brainfart for the peno they didn't have a single shot on target. If you bear in mind they have scored as many goals as Spurs, Chelsea, Dippers and Arsenal.
Martial coming off early may mean he gets a go against Arsenal up front with Lukaku in that formation? Matic didn't have a great game either looks tired and took the knock

Of course we still have some issues to address but I am confident Jose is the right guy at the right time.

I’d try Herrera, Matic and Pogba together with Pogba given a free-ish role, with an eye to getting into the box, almost playing that 10 position. I still maintain my position that Pogba is more of a 10 We've nobody who can carry the ball from deep and beat 5 players with pure power and pace, like he can. He's fucking awesome where he is now, and we need him where he is now

This Arsenal game is taking on season-defining dimensions now. Huge. Normally I'd be confident because it's Arsenal but they do have an excellent home record to be fair. Jose should crack out Fergie's old 4-5-1 from his last few years where he had them in the palm of his hand. 5 years later I bet it still works like a charm against them, some things never change. We always mention 'Lads, it's Tottenham' but I bet something pretty similar was said about Arsenal in those last few years.

He's fucking awesome where he is now, and we need him where he is now There was on run against Watford where Pogba got the ball deep in own half, beat a couple of challenges, and got us within 30 yards of the goal in a about 30 seconds. Reminded me of Yaya at his very best. We have been crying out for that from midfield for years. This Arsenal game is taking on season-defining dimensions now. Huge. The run that led to Young's free kick? Only way they could stop him was by fouling him.

The run that led to Young's free kick? Only way they could stop him was by fouling him. Exactly. We scored two goals from players driving forward from our own half. Let's do it more.

Hugely entertaining game...was bricking it for the first 10 mins as we seemed to be a yard off the pace everywhere and Watford were getting to everything...but when Young scored it changed everything...
We should have been really comfortable and if Lingard or Lukaku had taken their chances the 4-0 would have put the game well and truly to bed...however, Rojo happened...what a twat for that challenge...
Nevertheless it set up a frantic last 10 mins and I have to say I sort of embarrassed myself when Lingard scored...was down the pub and when it went in I just ran up to the big screen with my arms aloft, shouting YESSSS!!...not the thing to be doing at my age but by Zeus it felt good!!!
Special mention for Lindelof...I thought he was brilliant and now I can see what the fuss was about...I always hoped he would come good and last night he proved himself without a doubt...

www.football365.com/news/f365s-early-winners-man-uniteds-faithful-squad-menLast season, 13 Manchester United players – including the perma-crocked Phil Jones and the semi-retired Michael Carrick – featured for more Premier League minutes than Anthony Martial. Only the much-maligned and now-departed Wayne Rooney split Martial and Jesse Lingard in 16th, while Ashley Young was marooned down in 20th, with Luke Shaw the only senior player pushed further into the freezing cold by Jose Mourinho. On the opening day of this Premier League season, the hierarchy remained intact; Martial was the 13th man used against West Ham with ten minutes off the bench into which he managed to squeeze both a goal and an assist, while Lingard was given three minutes, five touches and an estimated four miles of running; Ashley Young was not in the 18-man squad, officially injured but unofficially forgotten. Just over three months later, Martial, Lingard and Young all started against Watford on Tuesday night and all three scored in excellent performances as United shook off the lethargy that had plagued them against Basle and Brighton. A few early, sloppy touches aside, Martial was effervescent and dangerous in a more central role, Lingard was that special combination of tireless and terrific that makes you occasionally believe he could be brilliant, and Young combined defensive excellence with his first Premier League goals in 18 months. While players at other clubs have been “fuming” about their bit-part roles and at least one fringe player at Manchester United regularly leaks his own displeasure to the press, Tuesday’s goalscorers have worked and listened and worked and listened. They are grateful to be at one of the world’s biggest clubs, playing under one of the world’s most successful managers and with a very high chance of adding to the two/three (delete according to your allegiances) trophies they won last season. It was a formula that certainly worked for Sir Alex Ferguson, who engendered tremendous loyalty in players like John O’Shea and Ji-Sung Park, who could have played more regular football elsewhere but chose to work and listen in exchange for silverware far in excess of their natural talents. Young has been primed for that role ever since his underwhelming signing in 2011, making 19 Premier League starts in his first season and barely beating that total in any campaign since. His Indian summer is apt reward for unstinting service without ever throwing his toys out of the pram. Lingard could spend his whole career at Manchester United without ever starting 20 Premier League games in a season; it has taken him 61 top-flight appearances to claim both a goal and an assist in the same game. He was wonderful against Watford – creating more chances (6) than any other United player in a game this season as well as scoring a remarkable goal – but there is every chance that he will be woeful if used at all against Arsenal on Saturday night. But one thing that can be guaranteed is that Lingard will, as ever, be incredibly grateful to be playing alongside supremely talented footballers like Paul Pogba; he is clearly punching above his weight and works incredibly hard just to stay on his feet. Martial is the outlier of that trio as his talent does absolutely match Manchester United’s ambitions; his goal against Watford was his sixth in the Premier League this season despite it coming in only his sixth start. But the Frenchman’s real progress has been in terms of his attitude – he appears to have accepted that he must earn the manager’s trust and has publicly spoken in only a positive way despite being marginalised. Somehow, Mourinho has convinced a £40m-plus signing that he has to serve his time as a squad player; that is quite some trick. “He’s hard with all of us and he is hard with me, there is no question,” Martial said earlier this month. “But I know that it’s for my benefit. But I also know that he really likes me as a person, so there’s no issue about the discipline being for the wrong reasons.” Of course Mourinho likes him; the big-money signing has become the faithful servant grateful for any scraps of games. Just like almost every other fringe member of a Manchester United squad that looks increasingly like those managed by Sir Alex Ferguson – loyal, determined and, well, united. Sarah Winterburn
