Valencia before the first goal, both feet off the ground, studs showing, caught their player. Other than that, nothing remotely red card worthy, and Valencia's was iffy at best. was a bad tackle but not a sending off. I wouldn't even want an opposing player sent off for that. they were dirty as fuck stamping all over Lingard too. Lingard and Sanchez. Don't forget Trippier raking Sanchez on the right ankle then raking his studs down his left achilles tendon - no foul given - and then Sanchez's pass went to a Spurs player and he went down, and the ref still didn't whistle and bring the play back. That was some dirty red card shit there.

Meh, contact sport. Jesse got his Achilles grated twice. On neither occasion was the ball anywhere near the challenge. Don’t think those are red either, but just as potentially damaging at Tony’s tackle. That said, who was the other player that should have been sent off? Guy is talking out his ass. im not sure if your agreeing or disagreeing with me lol I don't think they should have been reds but he was fouled more times than anyone on the pitch. Agreeing. 🤗

Atkinson with a diabolical decision to disallow a perfectly good Southampton goal by they way. 'Foul on the goalkeeper' that wasn't a foul at all. Hopefully he gets nowhere near the final. It's Oliver on the final.

That said, who was the other player that should have been sent off? Guy is talking out his ass. Here’s the thing with the “contact sport” argument: you have to be going for the ball. Our boys were raked when there was no hope of getting the ball; they were attempts to injure another player z we might want more physicality but the laws of the game are clear: intending to hurt or actually hurting another player is a sending off. Ref would have been correct to send off Trippier, that would have prevented the Valencia tackle. The more refs let it go the more severe the dangerous challenge becomes as the line they can’t cross gets moved. Not saying I disagree with you. In the recent Everton v Newcastle game, one player grabbed another by the arm and shirt collar and slowed the attacker down, eventually ripping his shirt. The ref should have blown earlier but didn’t, which let the offender commit two more little fouls on the attacker, which resulted in the attacker turning around in frustration to shove him off - except when he shoved the defender moved and he hit the defender in the neck and face. Laws applied correctly mean the defender gets a yellow and the attacker gets a red for retaliation. I like what the ref did (two yellows) but he didn’t apply the laws correctly.

The contact sport part was in reference to Tony’s tackle in which the ball was there, but he also got the player.
The fouls on Alexis and Jesse, I agree with you. They were attempts to slow the attacker similar to a shirt pull except they could have caused them injury. Those should have been judged more harshly than Tony’s imo.
