Barca Presidential candidate, Victor Font, says their at the risk of becoming the next Milan or United. Financial issues, piss poor transfer business, failing generally to promote the type of youth from their academy they used to do previously. Our slow decline started when we sold Ronaldo. You can argue their decline started when Neymar left. But where we failed to spend the Ronaldo money, Barca went out and completed some of the worst transfer business we’ve seen in years. In the same time Madrid have done a better job of recruiting some of the best young players from South America. I think once Messi leaves or retires, Barca will see a sharp decline. They will have to go back to their roots eventually and focus on their academy to produce their own world class players. If this is what he said then ok, but our decline did not start with Ronaldo leaving, we won titles and made a CL final after he left. Like Barcelona we bought really badly, unfortunately for us we didn't have a Messi or Iniesta to carry the team. I don't believe Neymar leaving was the beginning of there decline either. There was an undoubted believe among football supporters that La Masia would continue to give the first team players like Xavi, Iniesta, Pique and Messi. These are once in a generation type players, they were lucky to have these players come through all at the same time.

It did but we still had enough quality players and a world class manager to carry us for another 4 years even though any fan could see the team was in decline once players like Ronaldo and tevez where replaced on the cheap and then Scholes coming out of retirement sealed our fate as a top European side. it didn’t happen overnight but it was definitely the start.

No one will ever convince me differently that the summer of 2009 was the point we stopped being a serious European player. I will never forget an article in the paper when it listed out the potential replacements for Ronaldo and supposedly we had narrowed it down to two- Ribery and Benzema, with Fergie favouring the latter. To go from those to to Michael fucking Owen should have had heads rolling. Absolute dereliction and we’ve never recovered. Nor do we ever look like doing so in all honesty.

In an odd way, I appreciate the fact we are now being used as an example of how a great club can be run into the ground. It hopefully will bring further shame to the Glazers in their unparalleled attempt at being the worst owners in all of sport.

Deportivo relegated to the 3rd tier.
That's a shame, got a soft spot for them after our games against them back at the start of the century.
Diego Tristan and Roy Maakay up front and the wonderful Valeron as playmaker, cracking player he was.
Simpler, better times.

Messi may actually leave Barcelona this time from the looks of it. He's got a shite squad and a board comparable to us in terms of ineptitude.
I reckon PSG and the newly vindicated City will be looking at this intently.

IIRC he's not actually the biggest fan of Pep - apparently he thinks he's a great tactician but a wanker. So maybe he wouldn't go there.

No Ballon D'Or to be awarded this year ... no doubt Messi wasn't going to win it Everyone knows that this is a conspiracy to stop Jordan Henderson winning it.

The people who vote for the Ballon D'Or are dumb, but not that dumb. With the Euros moved the CL would have been the deciding factor - Lewandowski, Ronaldo, Messi, KdB, one of Neymar/Mbappe and maybe Benzema would all have become favourites if their team won. If I had to hand it out today, I'd be giving it to Lewandowski.

Barca have sacked Setien.
they are apparently talking to Ronald Koeman as the replacement.
