Happy for Modric. He's a cracking player and I think he's been the third best in the world for a couple of years now. He deserved to break the duopoly more than anyone else.
But Ronaldo and Messi are still the 2 best players in the world. I think they didn't win because the voters for the award care more about narrative, and the narrative of them ending a decade of dominance at 5 apiece just looks too good.
Though I do wonder - if England had got past Croatia, would Ronaldo have won it? I thought Modric was already the best player at the World Cup but most people only seemed to get on board when they reached the final. Perhaps Mbappe or Griezmann would have won but I reckon Ronaldo would have.
