I'm going to Venice, Turin and Milan in September. Did Tuscany last year, Florence, Siena etc. Italy is really enjoyable. I did Florence, Venice and Milan in 2014. Florence was my favourite, it's stunning. Milan was cool but quite different - much more industrialised than the other cities. Their Duomo is lovely though. Worth going to the San Siro - it surprised me by how old and dilapidated it seemed, but the stadium tour was good and the game atmosphere was good as well. Never been to Turin. Would love to see Juve play. Went to Milan years ago. Duomo, lovely. San Siro, very impressive (stadium tour only. No game). But without wanting to offend anyone, I found the people of Milan incredibly rude and arrogant. Hotel staff, cafe staff, shop staff. Everyone. Horrible to interact with. Put me off Italy for years until I tried Rome. Lovely place, wonderfully welcoming and generous people.

If we're talking recent trips I did Hong Kong and Shenxhen, China in February. Hong Kong is amazing. Its the best city in the world. Shenxhen is a huuuuuuuuuuge culture shock when coming from HK. You know you're in a totally different country as soon as you cross the river from HK to China. Had fun in both. Only thing is, it's ruined homogenised, westernised Chinese cuisine for me ha! Did you eat anything weird? Chicken feet, tripe, turtle soup. All in all not really. Beef there isn't very nice though, as there's a high Buddhist following there and they don;t really eat it there.

I went to Madrid in July for a festival. thought the city itself was cool. loads of good spots to eat and relatively priced.
Barce and Bilbao last year for festivals too. I haven't been to a city I enjoy as much as Barcelona.
I usually go abroad for music festivals as it kills 2 birds with 1 stone

I always wanted to travel, ever since I was a kid...
...and for the last 25 years on and off I have travelled for work...and some of the countries, I actually saw!!
TBF, I have been lucky with a few in-country trips paid for by my distributor / agent.
I'm hoping to get to do Central & South America some time next year...
The list of places I have been is quite long...something over 60 countries iirc...I did a thing once on Facebook and I think that's what it came to...

Anyone been to Tokyo or Kyoto and got any recommendations? Thinking particularly for cuisine, but anything worth doing is appreciated.

I've been a few times and generally get taken out for dinner...
Pretty much all the food I have had has been really good...
Of course, try the sushi and the teriyaki bars but try and go for some Shabu Shabu...it's a kind of Japanese fondue where you swish finely sliced meat and vegetables in water...then eat it, normally with dipping sauces...really nice and at the end, you share out the water to drink, which has become a kind of meaty flavoured thin soup...
I probably haven't sold that too well but give it a go...they call it Shabu Shabu because of the swishing action that you do when putting the stuff in the water...
Oh, and if you are into it, try some Japanese malt whisky...really decent stuff...

I really need to travel again soon. Apart from Fiji last year we haven't been anyway for years.
Fiji was cool as, beautiful country and great people. Had a great time there.
Looking at Europe next year, I've thought about just getting a monthly Europe wide rail ticket and getting trains here there and everywhere. The thought of having no plans, and just getting off the train at whichever stop looks good appeals to me. Only issue is having to lug a big backpack around everywhere, 1 - I'm 40 and too old for that, and 2 - You just scream TOURIST to everyone who see's you.

Be creative and lug a small backpack... I'm 63 and next year, when i'm 64, I plan to lug a small-ish backpack for 500 miles...

I'm going to Venice, Turin and Milan in September. Did Tuscany last year, Florence, Siena etc. Italy is really enjoyable. Just back from the trip above with my mates. Really enjoyable. Positives: -The weather. -The Museums. -The women! -The food, drink, ice-cream, etc, etc.. Negatives: -Walking past restaurants, with the staff waiting to pounce on you, literally 5 seconds after you glanced at the Menu. Pissed us off no end! -Walking past markets, with the stall guy waiting to pounce on you, putting a belt on you literally 5 seconds after you looked at it. Again incredibly irritating. -Some local guys coming up to you asking 'Do you speak English?'. For the love of God don't say 'Yes' as they'll attempt to con a few euro from you as they've 'missed the bus'. Again really annoying. So pluses and minuses generally. 🙄 Happy to be home.

Wheelie bags are cheap now pal, can even get backpacks that sit on top of them quite happily. I travel for a living and highly recommend Swiss gear bags. Reasonable price and they last.
