I know he got the assist for the winner but Ashley Young’s time as a full back for Utd has to be over. That first half was Prunier levels.
He should never be at right back - Is Dalot injured?

About to embark on this thread from Page 5, having missed the game due to being in Canada. Expecting one hell of a rollercoaster!

Was Fergie back at OT again to enjoy that? He deserves it after the shit he had to watch vs. Wolves.

Now that I've had a little time to think about it, the second half was sensational and it felt like Olde Tymes. We should have had a penalty called against for Young's arm in the wall, and one given for us in the second half. No clue what Bailly was up to, no idea why JM thought dropping McTominay into the defense was going to work. So many things looked designed to fail. 2 goals down in the first 10 minutes, I thought it was going to be an historic ass-kicking. Shelvey was bossing our midfield. Our defense looked like amateurs. Then it all changed. Maybe Jose said if they go out and score 3 goals he'll quit on Monday? Mata's free kick was a peach. Again and again Mata has shown his quality, his creativity, and normally he gets rewarded for it by riding the pine the following week. The buildup for Martial's goal was orgasmic. Pogba's touch was the superstar stuff we signed him for. We were fortunate for Sanchez's header to score since Martial was basically blocking him, but we created plenty of chances in that 2nd half, deserving the win. As many pointed out, Tree is not a great player but he's got heart like Rudy and gives 100% of whatever it is he has. As much as I hate seeing his name in the team sheet, he never shirks, and it makes me feel a little bit ashamed for the way he gets treated. Again, not his fault JM wanted him to stay, nor that he keeps getting picked. Full credit. I think we are going to need a bigger than anticipated clearout in the summer. Bailly is a mess. Lindelof apparently too (didn't see if he was injured). Matic continues to look jaded, so it's probably just age catching up to him. And I think Lukaku is a bust. Pogba was great in the second half. That Pogba can stay. I'm still looking forward to Jose leaving, but if he can get performances like this second half out of our boys consistently then I won't be crushed if he stays to summer. (A lot of "ifs"). Bailly is good enough. He has shown that he has the skill. He is a full blown nutter since last January though. Chalk that up to Mourinho. He will come good once Mourinho is gone. Lindelof ... may be a bust. Slow on the turn. Weak in the air. And cannot see the danger before it is behind him. Lukaku is good enough too. Look at his games with Belgium. He hits the net because his midfield gets him the ball in the box. He needs to stop the back shoulder crap though. Always looking for the miracle chip. And Mourinho can go. Recovering 3 points from an almost relegated side, at Old Trafford, in the last 20 minutes is thrilling. But not good enough.

The jury is still out with me on Bailly. I still fail to see anything that remorely suggests he's good enough and when I do its rare. Perhaps that may change under a different manager I don't know but so far IMO especially this season he's nowhere near good enough. He's pretty much fucked up in every single game he's played in so far this season. Although taking him off after only 20 minutes isn't exactly going to do the guys confidence any good.
Our defence is shit enough as it is, we can do without simple errors.
Lindelof has been steady enough but still needs to improve.
Young needs to start playing less, he also needs to be taken off corners. He's fucking abysmal. From what I saw from his only delivery in mid week I'd put Shaw on them that one delivery was better than all of Youngs out together. Dalot needs to start playing more often and bled into the side as well.
Besides Shaw and Dalot (mainly because hes barely played so hard to judge him uet) there isn't another defender I'd be sorry to see leave tomorrow. None of them are either good enough or aren't getting any younger and are playing too many games.
First signing we make whether its Jan or the summer needs to be at least one top centre back.

From what I've read Jose took off Bailly over McTominay to protect the lad. Either way they were both coming off. Interesting mindset.

To be fair he wouldn't have had to protect him if he'd have chosen Fred or Periera instead, who imo were better suited to this sort of game. There was no reason what so ever to go so defensive in the middle.
Problem is he didnt protect him in the end because he shifted him into a back 3 where he was completely out of his depth, then took him off anyway.
He's killing certain players confidence and it's completely avoidable.

Avoidable only by never playing the lad. On paper this was perfect game for him.

stilgar, I think you might need to read this mate^ Can we get him back on here soon for more positivity?? 🙄 As you wish.
Cause and effect goes the other way for me. It's not that I can't get delighted for a win because I want the manager sacked. I want Mourinho sacked because I can't really enjoy a win anymore and I can't get really furious for a lose anymore. I lost my passion for the game and for the team. Mourinho killed it bit by bit with his negative shit. I became quite indifferent.

(A lot of "ifs"). Honestly, I can't blame Jose (or any other manager for that matter) for continuously selecting Fellani to be in the squad because he really is one of the very few players here that he knows will give 100%.. sometimes that's more important than skill. Re-Bailly and Lindelof, the more I see both of them play the clearer it is that they'll reach another level if they play alongside a truly world-class CB. In an ideal world we could've signed Godin for 2-3 years, and once age has caught up with him we'd have them ready to step up as our main CB pairing. As things stand, I think Lindelof is less susceptible to extreme brain farts, but that doesn't mean that he gives me a lot of confidence as a fan (which makes me wonder what it must feel like to be his team member). Agree on Lukaku - there is no elite football club where he'll be the number 1 striker. I like him because he seems to care more than some of the other players in the squad, but I don't think he can win us the league or the CL. He's incapable of consistently scoring when it absolutely matters and when one goal could change the entire course of a game.

Martial's finishing at the moment is a lot better than Lukaku's , while Lukaku last night was at his best on the right channel putting a shift in.

Martial scored his first Prem goal since January. Behave. Well, hes been poor and I dont disagree on that. But as a pure finisher , he takes his chances better than Lukaku . We desperately need someone to finish chances because lukaku has been shite in that regard.
