I read that his fitness needed working on. If his recent performances were during this phase, he could be a very shrewd addition when right up to speed. Seems to have a good football brain on him too. I’d be happy enough with him as a permanent squad member, providing him being here doesn’t prevent other essential strengthening.

I'm terribly sorry but as a teacher I really need someone to capitalise the names in the title.

Such a shame. Would've loved for him to finish the season with us and maybe win a trophy. He's been useful and the pure joy on his face whenever he played and scored for us was worth it. Manchester United are facing the prospect of losing Odion Ighalo this week with talks to extend the striker's loan from Shanghai Shenhua at an impasse, sources have told ESPN Ighalo's temporary deal at Old Trafford is set to end on May 31 and although United have expressed a desire to keep the 30-year-old for longer, Shanghai have so far resisted all approaches. Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been impressed with the Nigeria international, who has scored four goals in eight appearances, but is said to be "relaxed" about the situation because Marcus Rashford is almost fully recovered from injury. Ighalo was brought in during the January transfer window as emergency cover for Rashford, who last played a game on Jan. 15 because of a back problem, and sources have told ESPN that the deal did not include an option to buy. The former Watford man wants to stay at United, his boyhood club, but Shanghai appear set on having him back for the start of the Chinese Super League campaign in June. The original agreement with Shanghai would have covered the end of the season but with the campaign postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic, Ighalo is set to miss United's remaining nine Premier League games and the culmination of the FA Cup and the Europa League. Despite Rashford's return to fitness, Solskjaer is still keen to add another striker to his squad in the next transfer window. Anthony Martial has been deployed as the central striker for much of the season but Solskjaer wants more options and will press ahead with a revamp of his forward line. The Norwegian has been kept informed of the financial implications of the COVID-19 outbreak -- which has already cost the club more than £20 million -- and although executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has insisted the market will not be "business as usual," Solskjaer will still be given money to spend. www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4099718/ighalos-man-united-loan-set-to-end-on-may-31-sources?platform=amp&__twitter_impression=true

I know it's probably not season defining for us but this sort of situation is why I don't think the season can continue after 01 June. Loan contracts and other contracts are expiring and clubs could be massively affected. In Ighalo's case it is a shame. I didn't want us to sign him in the first place but he's come in and done well. Clearly means something to him to be here so would have been great to see him score a few more goals. Still wouldn't sign him permanently though.

This isn’t a disaster but it certainly doesn’t help.

I doubt anyone would be thrilled if he’d been a summer target instead of a stop gap. Let’s aim higher.

It was a good loan and it would've been nice to have him until the end of the season. I think he deserves a contract for a year or two. He's shown himself to be a superb backup for Rashford. And we desperately need some of those. Ighalo was a no brainer for me.

also a bit sad about ighalo`s situation, would have been amazing for the lad to finish the season properly and add some more goals. would i mind if we buy him on a permanent deal for 1 or 2 years? not at all, if its for the right price. we need some backup and he seems the kind of guy who wouldnt have problems sitting on the bench and being the replacement/late sub. but on the other hand, i think we can do much better and invest in a young/upcoming/talented striker to create some more competition up front.

We need to spare every penny this summer in hopes of Sancho so unfortunately the £20 million reportedly being asked for is too much. It seems his club are unwilling to even extend the loan a year with option to buy.

His agent said we’re close to agreeing an extension with his parent club. Looks like it’ll be up till January.
