So, why isn't he captain yet? Hoping we use that as a barganing chip when a big club eventually comes in for him. He won’t wait around forever either if we’re not back up there soon. Carrying us at the minute.

Not saying you're wrong, but if he wasn't ready for a 25 minute cameo when we were 3 goals up, why was he on the bench? Not sure, being around the squad and getting familiar with the feeling of a Champions League night maybe? Fergie used to do that all the time to be fair.

Really impressed with our new signings. Donny was immense. Does the simple things really well, supports his defensive CM partner but still keeps things ticking with clever half turns and forward passes. Has a great pass in him as well.
Cavani ran his socks off, but made intelligent runs rather than just racking up mileage. Proper striker runs. Between him and the excellent Telles, I can't remember the last time I felt we were a true attacking threat from crosses. The nice knock-on effect of that is that it freaks defenders out just enough to open that little bit of space at the edge of the box for a thunderbolt from midfield. Enter Bruno.
This is pretty much our best starting 11 from the current squad, even though I'm not convinced about Rashford on RW. Maybe alternate him, Mason and Tony on the wings.
Second half was a bit of a damp squib after all the subs, but I guess job done.

I loved the attacking threat that the line up gave us but let's be honest, against a decent team, we would probably have lost 5-4...
The centre of our defence in particular is as soft as butter...Maguire scares me every time he tries to play out of defence, Lindelof has never inspired me with confidence...IMHO, Tuanzebe is better than both of them...
I think at FB, we are in reasonable shape...I like Telles and now that Shaw is injured, he should get a decent run of games...
I also like Fred but he gave the ball away cheaply a couple of times last night and either he improves or we need to replace him...
Donny was awesome and together with Bruno, made the team tick and move forward...
BTW, Mason seems to have got even bigger since the last time I saw him...growth spurt??
If he fills out a bit more, he will be a monster...

The difference when you actually start with a proper striker. I think I’ve finally accepted that Rashford and Martial aren’t that. More support strikers or wingers. What was criminal was not replacing Lukaku. Rashford plays almost all the time as a left winger so this doesn’t really apply to him.

Whatever risks may come with playing a VDB, Bruno and Fred, it’s worth taking when it’s clearly our best midfield.

Pretty much guaranteed that it won't, but you'd hope that Ole will take note of how effective it can be when having a player deeper who can play under pressure, keep the ball, and play through the lines effectively. I fully expect VDB to be back on the bench come Sunday.

People talking about Ole helping himself, learning etc.
We play Soton this weekend. If you remember they outplayed us at OT last year when we were in great form. They pressed us like crazy and we couldn’t handle it at all. So what I want to see is how Ole and the coaches have planned to counteract this and see it implemented, be it tactics or team selection. Because if we don’t and it looks like a surprise, that’s on the coaching staff.

Whilst the opposition wasn't great, I liked the general setup and thought it produced some pretty good football. For it to be effective against the better teams though, it needs some major upgrades. Add a top-class CB, DM, RW and ST and we could be onto something.

So like most of us suspected Van de beek is a class act , hope this clears up Ole's pogba delusion, VDB should be a starter from now on

Not going to knock Ole for something that hasn’t happened yet but if it does...

If he doesnt learn from the mistakes of the previous encounter then completely agree it is pathetic. Can only back him on certain things for so long and if he's not learning from mistakes made then there's little argument that can be made. Its away anyway so there's some hope there at least 😏
