I think it's grossly unfair to start having a go at Ronaldo for not being an effective presser of the ball. Ronaldo has pretty much dragged us through a CL group, without his goals we are bottom of that group. We were lucky to draw that game tonight, so I'm not having this BS that the decision to leave Ronaldo out was justified. Ronaldo is the ultimate goal scorer in world football and if he was at any of the other big clubs in England he wouldn't be sitting on the bench.

Pick out Ronaldo's pressing stats, when he's never been told to press at United.
Excellent analysis.

Agree with both Carragher and Keane really.
Carraghers right, you finish runners up the next step is the title, so you bring players in to do that. No club signs Ronaldo, and to a lesser extend Varane, with the aim of "in 3 or 4 seasons we'll be ready to win the league". These are the players you get to do that now.
But Keane's right too, this club was never likely to challenge for the title. Yes, the league says 2nd last season, but Chelsea and Liverpool were way better, United were 4th at best in reality. I'll admit, I predicted 3rd and thought Liverpool were spent, but been proved well wrong on that, with everyone fit again they are on a complete different level to United.
Ronaldo on his own can't change that, but he can mean a trophy maybe, and a longer run in the Champions League, which means financially it was worth it for the owners.
I'm fine with Ronaldo not starting every week and hopefully he is too. Especially with the pressing game being implemented then this is going to take a lot out of players, so rotation is going to be key the rest of the season. He'll play more than enough games, just not every single one of them.

Ronaldo didn’t fucking press when we had him the first time. We put Rooney, Tevez and the likes of Park around him to do that for him.
Not one person in the media was talking about our pressing when we were winning games with Martial or whoever up front. When a team is playing shite, they try to look for reasons that are overly specific because they’re pundits/journalists and they have to be seen to be analysing something.

And also because, deep down, they absolutely hate that the greatest player in football has signed for United. Again.

How much pressing would he have done for city? None. but they would be top of the league so it wouldn't matter, ridiculous thing to have a go at Ronaldo for.

A midfield of matic, Fred, and Donny could work
Thought Matic and Fred did well today
With 3 in there, Matic’s age and lack of quickness aren’t as much of a problem

I thought Matic was actually superb today. Still has value if used correctly. I think Fred and McT worked their nuts off, there just isn't enough quality on the ball from either of them.
It's that same situation with us. If they were squad players, a lot of these players wouldn't get half as much stick as we give them but it's the fact McFred is our midfield that is the issue.

Didn’t watch it so can’t comment overall, but have seen the highlights and must say how impressed I was with Sancho’s finish, very confident considering the shit-storm he’s been through since arriving.

We need to find a 23 year old version of Matic ASAP. He was such a good player and still shows glimpses of his quality. A mobile CDM with similar ability transforms this team.

I am not saying Ronaldo should not be a team player but anyone who doesn’t think that young lads like Sancho and Rashford should not do the majority of the running and pressing in a front 3 is deluded.
