I think realistically Ronaldo will probably end up staying.
He is back training with the first team and Erik knows he won't get sufficient funds to buy a proper replacement in January and has probably been told by the Glazers that they would rather not have to give Ronaldo a £10M payoff or subsidize a loan move.
Hopefully Ronaldo realizes that he is no longer a guaranteed starter and has to accept gracefully a back up role.
Hopefully Erik realizes that he needs Ronaldo's goals and needs to do more to integrate him into the team such as giving him more minutes and making tactical tweaks
