As the subject says, watches.
I've recently got into it. I have liked watches since I was young, but now that liking has grown into something deeper.
Having looked around the last couple of months for a nice watch, something that'll last me hopefully for a good couple of decades, I fell into a rabbit hole of brands, movements, history etc. and haven't gotten out. It also happens to be the only accoutrement that men can wear which can be classified as jewellery. Not to mention - a good watch is a great heirloom to pass down generations.
I've narrowed down to a Black Bay or a Junghans Chronoscope. Within the next 6 months I hope to get one of these.
Anyone else into it?

Have you looked at the models from Nomos Glashuette ,they make some beautiful watches ! Man, I fucking love Nomos. Their designs are "chef's kiss". But I really want something with day/date, and I cannot find a single Nomos with one.

I have decided to save up for the black bay. Nothing else was really cutting it for me and I thought it would be best to wait for my grail rather than spend on something lesser now. So sometime by next year in June, I hope to have saved up enough to get the BB Pro. So I shall soldier on with my old Tissot for the time being All 3 of the watches you mentioned deserve a place in a collector's cache. The PRX especially is sublime.

Honestly I’ve tried liking the Murph but I just can’t bring myself to it. I feel that way about most of Hamilton in general - they look too plain. 🫣 If you’re going Alpinist which dial are you looking at ?

Don't mind me, I'm just looking around at the affluent corner of the forum..... all this watch talk has me intrigued. Very informative, many names I had not heard of before seeing the thread.
I got a Casio watch the other day for the first time since I was a child and was well impressed (they've come a long way with solar tech n stuff).... and then I read this thread and was appropriately brought back to earth.
love the discussions though.

I was going to say that your first choice in alpinist should be the green dial 😄. Perfect choice. Orient is another interesting name to look at for beaters as I’ve recently discovered. Some very cool pieces in there. Christopher Ward is a new name I’ve come across recently too. Some very nice watches with very well reviewed movements. Horology honestly is an endless dive.

Horology honestly is an endless dive. absolutely. the green dial one might be the most common, but it also looks the most beautiful. i had an orient kamasu that i sold a while ago and still own an orient bambino with a lovely blue sunburst dial. those bambinos are amazing and well made dress style watches. unbeatable for their price. christopher ward...took me a while to warm to them as the name somehow reminded me of something that might be part of those tv auctions/advertisements. but had to learn that they are not and make some great watches in fact. i dont really like their logo though...or not yet. i might be mistaken here, but they advertise their movements as "in-house", which is not entirely true as they buy them actually. most of their watches use a sellita movement, but that is a good thing since you can service them at most watchmakers and those movements are very reliable. maybe i'm wrong here. really nice watches though and will keep an eye on them.

One of the G-Shock line. Truly impressive imho. You should have seen my face when I relised it auto lights up after dark when you tilt your wrist........ mind f-ing blown! Its the simple things that get me sometimes. Edit: I immediately went to look up what Horology was...... very happy to have learned that.
