still shocked that we are 3 points better than last season. That can't right? I think that's really down to the cup runs, which I am mixed on. I went nuts with him after playing Eriksen in that Reading game, before and after it. The full team against Betis away too and other games, where we seem to be a bit cup crazy! Casemiros 3 red cards haven't helped us and we may get back to form with Eriksen and Casemiro back, but it's all a bit of gamble with such a shit lite squad. Maybe it's worth it all in the end? I guess you have to go for it, but is there real progress, with such a short term focus! I would have preferred a real go at the PL and get within 6 points by the end and 1 cup and the style of play massively improved. Casemiro and Eriksen are a huge loss. They are top class midfield players and what we have in reserve there is a load of shite!

The squad is thin and we all knew that, he wasn't backed in the Jan window and we all know why, and I think most of us said it, if we didn't get any players in Jan we would struggle in the second half of the season, we just don't have the squad capable to compete over a full season, especially with still about 5 or 6 still needed to be shipped out and upgraded.
It was a wank performance but those have been creeping up quite recently, I still think we will win the Europa and we still have a chance at the f.a cup, one more of those cups and a top four from were we was last season is huge steps taken, throw in the gimps selling up and the future looks good.

We have a chance of those cups with Casemiro back and hopefully Eriksen. I wouldn't even back us in the next two games with that midfield and Weghorst.

Most of the squad is still shit. I’d probably give him another season to boot them out . No coincidence no Casemiro or Erickson and the old ways are back.

We'd have been less exposed against Newcastle if he'd played Sabitzer, McTominay and Fred in an actual midfield three. (I'd prefer Mainoo instead of McTominay - how does he become selectable without games?)
Sabitzer's the best of those three, and he's not Utd quality.
Fernandes is an attacker. He can't play in midfield.
Weghorst is so appallingly bad, why not just use Fernandes as a 'false' 9 and put three midfielders on the pitch in away fixtures, in the hope that they occupy a bit of space?

Agree about the 3 midfielders, i've never liked 4-2-3-1, always leaves midfield too exposed and we're easily cut through, obviously it's been much better with Casemiro in there but when he isn't you have to do something different. Casemiro and Palhinha in the 4-2-3-1 would work a treat, hoping we nab him from Fulham in the summer.

Forget how good players are skillwise for a moment Newcastle aren't exactly blessed with superstars, what we are lacking is desire to win the work rate was pathetic, we were second to every ball, not every player in the prem is high quality in terms of football ability but many do well because they work hard and are aggressive.
What I find strange lately is when we are bad its not one or two its the whole team like none of them are up for it from the start, that was most evident against scouse and again on sunday, Sancho is a prime example he was pulling out of challenges for the time he was on, watch the game back and tell me Im wrong, he`s a coward.

If you watched the way Everton worked last night, that is the effort that we require from these overpaid prima donnas...

The work rate thing is far too simplistic imo and let’s too many off the hook for their real deficiencies, including the manager in this case. Work rate wasn’t what cost us on Sunday, quality in key areas did, along with ETH getting most of the big decisions wrong. Scott and Weghorst have incredible work rate and produced it again on Sunday for example. It didn’t matter, both were shite. Leaving that donkey on for 60 minutes cost us, taking Antony off cost us as he had started to get in Burns’ head. Not playing Fred cost us. That cunt Andy Caroll cost us, as did that prick of a ref in the Palace game. Bringing on a busted flush in Sancho ahead of Pellestri, the list goes on.
Brentford away and the end of the Scouse game were the only examples I can think of where we were out-worked and out-ran. The other awful performances came from a lack of quality in key areas of the squad which cannot deal with injury or suspension to important players.

Agreed. This is about lack of squad quality/depth. We haven't replaced Eriksen's assists. Neither Bruno nor Sabitzer has really stepped up in his absence. Without Casemiro we can't boss a midfield and Scotty is really a very poor player. Wout is a joke. Rashford's prolific goal scoring since the World Cup has papered over the cracks but isn't sustainable and I cannot really see anyone else stepping up and increasing our goal scoring output and especially not the lump we currently have upfront. Martinez and Varane are pretty solid in defence although clearly far more comfortable with Casemiro ahead of them but all our fullbacks are very suspect defensively and prone to very bad games. Sancho is crap. Antony at least shows a bit of promise but he's not making the difference he should be making.
The good thing is that Tottenham also have lots of problems so we will probably still make 4th place. I am not so sure about the Europa League and the FA Cup I think it will depend very much on the form and fitness of our key players. But at least we have one trophy.
The real worry is that we don't get new owners. This squad needs a lot of investment and Erik needs to get rid of the mediocrity that has a habit of bringing everyone down to their level.

Weghorst was kinda funny, cult hero-ish when we were winning. I just wish one of us won the raffle to play for us instead of him, I'm certain all of us would be better, and at least have bagged against Gibraltar for Holland
