Do you know this for a fact? Don't talk about conjecture and what you infer from his press conferences and briefings. Do you know for a fact that he did not ask owners to sign certain players? This fallacy that he can just demand players like some mafia boss needs to fuck off because I'm fed up hearing about it. He simply can't.Why?

This fallacy that he can just demand players like some mafia boss needs to fuck off because I'm fed up hearing about it. He simply can't. Spot on. It’s just so dull we can’t have meaningful conversation about him without this nonsense being peddled every page. We can't have a meaningful conversation with anything negative in it is what you actually mean.

I'm having wobbles with Erik myself, even in this thread within seconds I was back and forth, but I blame the beer and passion for that, constant negativity suggests an agenda and it's boring.

I do know this for a fact. We didn't have more signings. So either he asked for signings and was refused and accepted it, then went into press conferences and told everyone he was happy with the squad and supporters should be too. In which case people cannot use transfers/the squad as an excuse for the squad's failings. Or he actually is satisfied with the squad in which case you still can't use the squad or lack of signings as an excuse. The only way for him to escape that scenario is to resign if they can't sign a player he wants. There would be alot of resignations if that was the case. Everyone knows he wants better players. Why wouldn't that be the case? I think your reading too much into press conferences, usually managers just want to say as little as humanly possible in them, as to avoid cornering themselves with sports journalists.

Ride it out until new owners come in, don't get yourself sacked beforehand. Jose still ain't really said shit, Ole just found his balls etc

I don't understand why on the one hand I am not allowed to hold the manager to what he actually says in public but at the same time you can say 'Everyone knows he wants better players' as if it is fact. Common sense says it's true but every time ten Hag talks about the squad he talks them up.

Fact: Everyone says we need more players - except the manager. Fact: We haven't made more signings. Which of those of is not true?

Sounds to me like he very much wanted new players.
December 2022.
“It’s always difficult. Strikers are expensive, especially in the winter,” Ten Hag said. “But you have to set the limits high.
“We’re looking for it. We need to be creative and do everything we have in our power to get the right players in, who are fitting in the balance. It’s about timing and availability. It’s about so many circumstances playing a role in that. It’s a long period and the window hasn’t even started.

So it seems like it’s boiling down to whether or not you believe this- Everything a manager says in a press conference about his squad has to be taken at face value. I’m pretty sure most of us know that this is categorically not the case. The only things we can judge the manager on are his public statements and his actions. Ten Hag could tone down his praise of what is clearly a quite shite squad without calling them all shite. And he could stop playing the likes of Maguire and Weghorst.

Nobody says you can't hold him to it but you need to expect him to talk up his team for the sake of this season. After all, it's all he's got until the season is over. We've tried a bombastic manager that shit over everyone in press conferences and it didn't work then and its really not likely to work now.

It's just a needless stick to beat him with. This notion aswell that he needs to do and say everything in public is ridiculous aswell. None of us know what is said behind closed doors. Given the quality of players be brought in the summer I can't imagine he was happy in Jan. But if his hands are tied I fail to see what he can possibly do about it other than act professional and ride it out until the summer where hopefully this lot fucks off.
