We bought Mazrouia for his ability to play on both flanks. So Shaw's injury confirms the logic of the deal. That is if Mazrouia can stay fit! But next summer absolutely we need to buy a left back. The De Ligt critics are idiots. De Ligt has made over 200 appearances playing for big clubs in 3 leagues and also has 45 international caps. And he is only 25! He will slot in nicely alongside Martinez and it takes the pressure off Yoro so we don't have to rush him back from injury and can be eased into the Premier League which is a much higher level than the French league. And we are getting him for only £38m upfront. That is incredible value even if long term he ends up being a squad player behind Martinez and Yoro. I'm assuming that we will get the Ugarte deal done as we showed with the Mazrouia and De Ligt deal that we are willing to meet selling clubs halfway. And with PSG willing to negotiate we should get a deal done. And I don't think FFP is the issue as we have netted over £50m in player sales and most of that was profit under FFP. I think it has just been a case of INEOS being very disciplined and refusing to overpay. And as others have said if we get the Ugarte deal done then it will be our best transfer window in a very long time. And even if we have to compromise and sign someone like Berge or Fofana or Danilo we will still end up with a squad a lot stronger and deeper than last season and have a good chance of getting back into top 4. i could be wrong here...but isn't it Mazraoui?. not attacking you as it's a decent post but im just one of those people who doesn't like peoples names/surname being butchered like that.

Munich fan pages not happy they’ve sold them both saying De Ligt was there best defender. Fumin they got less than the price of Solanke!
I haven’t been sold on this player , but the fees quoted it’s terrific and I hope I’m proven wrong .
Massive week for the club now to make it a 10/10 window

I was personally disappointed when he went to Juve, and then when he went to Bayern, without United even trying to sign him.
One thing De Ligt will bring to this group of players is leadership.
This squad was evidently mentally fragile last season, I think having players like De Ligt and Licha at the back (even Maguire in the form he was in nearing the end of last season) will make an impact.

No better than Maguire There’s a reason why he’s talking twaddle on Sky and not preparing for the new season…..

Could say that about many seasons tbf.

I think the balance of the squad is improving:
We have youngsters like Yoro, Garnacho, Mainoo who play with no fear. And we are stocking up on young talent so future is brighter.
We have natural leaders like Martinez and De Ligt.
We have players who really care about the club and give 110% like Bruno and Scotty and Dalot.
We have hard-working unselfish model pros like Hojlund and Mount.
But we still have some issues. Rashford and Sancho are fair weather players and both have attitude problems. Bruno cannot be faulted for his ability or his effort but he's too emotional especially at times when we need calmer heads to prevail. Casemiro has gone from lion to pussycat and if he is going to be a part of our first team plans this season we need him to get his act together. Onana is very vocal and flamboyant but doesn't inspire a huge amount of confidence or trust although I've been impressed by his willingness to admit fault and take responsibility and hopefully this season will be a lot better for him.
And remains to be seen if the physical fragility of our squad has been addressed by the new signings and personnel changes in the backroom.
But our squad certainly has a much better profile than last season!

Quick question on Ugarte. Why are people so enamoured with him? He barely got a kick playing in the footballing 3rd world. Why are we after him?

He was also great in the Copa. Enrique wants more possession-based mids but that doesn’t mean he’s a bad player. I’d like him as he’d stop people waltzing through our midfield and creating 25 chances a game.

Works for me, as long as there's another actual ball playing midfielder, ala Pirlo, Xabi Alonso, Scholes coming in too.

Aren’t we forgetting Mainoo? I’d say the emergence of Mainoo means we can afford to go for more of a ball winning workhorse defensive midfielder rather than someone in the Zubimendi or FDJ mould ?
Last season Mainoo was having to firefight like everyone else but in a stable midfield I think he would influence games more and technically he’s very good and his passing range will develop. And surely the point of keeping Erik is that we have someone who can develop some of the youngsters we have.

More than happy so far. Are we a little light up top still though? cant see anyone getting 20 odd goals regularly.
