Southgate is shocking. That was an awful performance. Might have been different if Kane and Foden were on the pitch…
I’m sure social media will blame Mainoo. Probably Rashford too.

Compared to the rest of the nations, England are miles off it.
It’s worrying Southgate doesn’t know his best team and can’t get the best out of any of them.

'In the first half I really enjoyed Jude Bellingham. He took England by the hand and lifted them to a higher level.' England were playing very passive. I actually saw them moving backwards, they kept Serbia coming at them. It's the vision of the manager. England will take a 1-0 lead, then he decides to start gambling with making his team compact and relying on moments for the remaining minutes of the game.'
Very funny given what we all know has been going on behind the scenes to see Erik have a dig at Southgate.

He's incredibly negative but I still think English players lack the bottle and struggle with the pressure. Other countries players rise to the occasion whereas Englands just go into a shell.

Think there’s a lot of knee-jerk reactions in here.
Foden has never performed at his best for England, but in fairness to him, he’s been shunted out onto the left side last night which is not his position. Factor in as well that the other occupant of the left hand side is not actually a left back or left footed. Difficult job last night. He may well be overrated, I think the difference between him and Bellingham is vast already. But to say Foden is lucky he’s English else he wouldn’t be at City? Madness considering his numbers this season. He has clearly contributed.
There’s some shouts in here of Kane being overrated or shite. Again, he’s scored and assisted more goals than anyone in the world this season. All he’s ever done is score goals. Without looking at his exact stats, I know for a fact that some of those goals have been against good sides.
I do think there was a place for Rashford in the squad because there effectively isn’t a real option on the left. The ones that are there don’t have his pace. Certainly off the bench I think he could have had an impact. Particularly when one of Kane’s strengths is dropping in and supplying the runners going past him (see his partnership with Son). Rashford was playing shite going into the last World Cup, got lucky to make the squad and then it became a catalyst for his best season for United afterwards.
You’re not going to win every game 3-0 at a tournament. Last night was either going to be people getting carried away about England had they brushed Serbia aside or people saying England were shite if they didn’t. They weren’t that great in the group stages of the last Euros and made it to the final.

I was surprised that he used Bowen instead of Palmer, but then Bowen was good when he came on and was unlucky not to get an assist. Gallagher is perplexing, but Southgate’s always used a player in the midfield that is basically just there as a pair of legs. Henderson and Phillips both played that role for him in the past. I think there’s definite criticism to be levelled at Southgate. I certainly don’t want him at United. Left hand side is really unbalanced. Partly his fault for selecting Foden there and partly he’s been hamstrung by not having a LB. But the result last night isn’t the disaster it’s been painted as.
