A fit Malacia doesn’t get burned like that, do I’d give him a pass for now. The lack of crossing was awful though. He was played in to good positions a number of times and checked back. I do think that’s a Ten Hag holdover.

It’s great that Ruud and Amorim have got our European campaign back on track. It’s still a massive slog and we might still need playoffs but it’s probably still our best shot at qualifying for the champions league and all the extra games will allow Amorim to assess the full squad and practice patterns.
Bodo/Glimt aren’t a pushover so it was a good result. Especially as players are still getting used to Amorim’s ideas. For me what is impressive was the way that Amorim changed things second half to try to neutralise them. Obviously he favours a 3-4-3 but he’s tactically flexible and imaginative.
Garnacho is frustrating. Far too wasteful. We really need Amorim to improve that side of his game.
Maz has been a revelation. Easily our best defender this season.
Good for Hojlund to get the goals under the new manager especially given you’d imagine Amorim is very keen to bring in Gyokores in the summer. Europe seems to suit him. Hopefully he’ll get a run of games as he’s our best striker.
Also good to see Mount back he’s a manager’s player and intelligent enough to quickly grasp what Amorim wants and hopefully he can stay fit and show what he can do.

I do think that’s a Ten Hag holdover. In the buildup, Martinez came out to press one of their players presumably because Malacia wouldn’t. That left Malacia as the third CB and poorly positioned. You’d have to imagine that if Malacia had come out and pressed, Martinez would have dropped back knowing he wouldn’t fancy a foot race with their player. It wasn’t just getting burned for pace, he wasn’t physical enough, didn’t get his body across. Just got bullied.

I’m happy we can actually see a plan on the pitch. Almost 2 1/2 years where spent with us saying “wtf are we actually doing formation/attack wise” and now can visually see it play out under Amorim. It will take at least a month to really see everyone on the same page… all of these games stacked up will really help get them in line.
I think by Jan 1st, Amorim will know who can and can’t hack it under his system then start making moves to get them out and replace them.
Well all of this is my hope.

Yeah, unfamiliarity with the system combined with lack of match sharpness you’d hope. Was very bloody amateur otherwise.
