Id just like to say hello to everyone on the forum, Im delighted to join, I saw this group on myspace and well I thought it looked fantastic, it was nice to be given the link to the forum.
I have been a staunch red all my life, I live and breathe united and well Im just in love with the club! And I join the day after we blitzed Fulham 5-1. And what a game it was.
I stand firm in saying that Manchester United would have won the title last season had we not had bad injuries to key personel. And had Saha been in the side from the start.
Credit to Ruud for his service to us during the past 5 seasons, although I think it was better to sell, as he doesnt really fit in with our style of play anymore.
We played some scintillating football when we were pushing for the title last season and we started against Fulham yesterday where we left off in May.
If we buy Hargreaves then I feel than we have our 'enforcer', we also have Carrick coming back, and also Heinze to fill in the defence.
And do we need another striker?
Personally Id like to see us break the bank and get Hargreaves AND Torres. Then I doubt we would need to buy anyone next summer!
We havent won the title for 3 seasons. Its been bad luck with injuries mainly, and also we spent the best part of 3 years changing the way we play to accomodate the ageing legs of Roy Keane.
I know he is a legend and all but since getting rid of Keano weve been able to go back to the real Manchester United, 4-4-2, attacking play, fast and furious, and well you can see the difference.
We look ready to challenge for honours again.
I was arguing with a confused cockney earlier, who obviously supports Chelsea. He seemed adamant that Liverpool are Chelseas main challengers, as they have signed Pennant and Bellamy...
...yes thats what I thought. He also slated Giggsy and Scholesy.
I responded by saying that Giggs and Scholes are still massive players, in the past 18 months Giggs has been a revelation, and its testament to his self discipline thats kept him at the top. Hes 32 now, and lets compare him to Beckham who is 31. And say Robbie Fowler, who is almost if not 32...
Giggs is more like a player in his late 20s. Hes awesome.
Scholes is still one of the best midfielders in the world, it looks like taking a few months off has done him the world of good (I hope noone else has similar ideas!) and he looks fresh again. He has had a lull the past couple of seasons but the whole side has had one really, weve been accomodating Roy Keane to the detrement of the side and since hes gone we have got our pace, style and swagger back. Scholes will hopefully be back to his best, he certainly was yesterday and was in pre season too.
I think Fulham were not so much awful yesterday. We basically capitalised on our possession, we were clinical in front of goal, put our chances away and that was how we were 4-0 up after 19 minutes. I said before the game we need to go out and play each game like a cup final and try and blitz the opposition. And we did!
Liverpool have bought Bellamy and Pennant. Bellamy is average at best, very inconsistent, and his pace is his saving grace. Hes never been prolific, even when at Newcastle.
Pennant again is unproven, or perhaps he is proven?
But he certainly isnt United quality, and well he has practically always been overlooked for England, basically because there are far better wingers out there.
I know this is a long winded post but I love talking about all things United. My hopes are that we sign Hargreaves and maybe Torres by August the 31st, which so much happens to be my 21st birthday, what a lovely present those 2 lads would be off Sir Alex!
Chelsea are the team to beat. Hopefully with the signing of Hargreaves, and maybe El Nino, United can beat them to the title.
Its a long season ahead!
