Hello, I am new to this site. I live in rockford illinois united states. I have supported united since the late 70,s when I saw them touring the states. I was really impressed by Ian Storey-moore, when he was here. Of course I think Eric Cantona is the greatest player ever. Currently Ryan Giggsnis at the top of my list. Thanks

I live in Los Angeles so I am pretty in tune with the reaction to Beckham coming to the Galaxy. To be honest, Beckham is more of a novelty for most Angelinos. Most hardcore football fans (soccer) in this market are Latino and Beckham is not as big a star as he is in England/Europe. To make a splash in L.A., Galaxy should have signed Ronaldo because his name is a much bigger draw than Beckham. Soccer is not a big sport in the U.S. at all, but it is a sport on the rise. Beckham will get the casual fan to focus a little more on the MLS and for sure, he'll attract more media coverage to the sport.
In the US, if the highlights don't show up on ESPN's Sports Center, then the majority of sports fans here will pretend that sport doesn't exist. During World Cup, ESPN does a great job of showing the highlights from each day's action and consequently, there is a lot more interest in the sport during these times. Once World Cup ends, people go back to the staples of American sports....baseball, basketball, American football, NASCAR auto racing and to an extent, hockey.
I believe that the English Premier League will become the main football league that most American fans follow. I feel that this is why there have been more American owners in the EPL. (Lerner - Aston Villa....Glazer - ManU....Gillette - Liverpool) If the proper television contracts can be negotiated here in the States, Americans will start waking up on Saturday and Sunday to turn on the latest EPL match, rather than an NBA basketball game.
