Every year United won the league (and the years in between that they havent) our main aim was to play exciting and entertaining football. No matter how much our rivals hated us, they knew if they were to watch a United game on the telly they'd get to watch some great football. Now Chelsea are on the scene, playing defensive, regulated and controlled football, does that leave room for United to carry on with their trademark play? I'd hate to see United dull their game and start playing in the fashion that Chelsea do, where they only up their game if they go a goal down or have a man sent off (or both in the case of the West Ham game! lol). But say 5 years go buy, and we dont win the league... would you be prepared to see us alter our style to that of Chelsea's, just so we could be successful? www.republikofmancunia.org

We have to change the present style yes,we are not playing entertaining football and it shows on and off the pitch. We need to get back to terrorising the shit out of oponents with flair football,Since Carlos has been about Utd have dulled which is a insult if you think we have the most entertaining footballer in England with ROONEY.We have to much class ever to become like Chelski they are dull and what i want to see in a Utd team is flair but maybe more than that players who are fucking proud to be playing for the greatest club....

imo attractive flowing football is the soul of our club , it defines us.like barcelona we must stay true to our values and the great players will want to sign.for a side in transition we `ve done ok this season.add the two cm`s we need and were on the road again! i can see other teams try to copy chelsea`s style of football , didnt they copy boltons? , and the prem turning into a serie A like stalemate.god forbid! at least ourselves and the arsenal know how to entertain.so no , i would not like to see us sacrifice the beautifull game for sucess as i dont believe its nessisary.

well said matt.totally agree.carlos` attempts eurolise our team with his slow , deliberate , methodicol approach removes the very zest that put the fear of god into our opponents. re the recent embaressment at stamford bridge , by the time we reached the final third they had 9 behind the ball.we dont explode onto teams like we used to , exposing their flanks and and turning the defence.too bloody predictable.

Well said deanser.
Football in general, but united in particular is about entertainment, should never sacrifice that for success. Lol we would probably have won more in the 70's and 80's if we had, but we left it to the scousers to bore people to death and win stuff. #biggrin#

i agree, that we should keep the style of play
i think our keepers need to be taught that getting the ball out quickly like big peter used to and get us on the counter attack, cos back in the day thats how we used to demolish teams.

The style of our great teams in recent years is obviously what we would all love to see back, with its attacking flair, never say die attitude, tough tackling and a hunger to win. Undoubtably a return to the this flowing play would bring back success. That said, I just don'y believe the current squad has the ability to play in the style of teams past.
I would love United to win playing good football, however right now I would settle for winning the league any how, any way.

I think there's room for both, play attractive football because that's the spirit of the club and with the current players we have we'd be mad not too, but it wouldn't hurt to have a deffensive attitude to certain games!

I agree with Nathan on this one.
What’s wrong with a little of both? Playing sweet, sweet football and going at teams, thrashing them, then on other occasions (depending on what game etc) take the more cautious approach. I’d much rather see us win trophy after trophy, if it means giving up this ‘beautiful’ football, of course I would. Who doesn’t want to see their club win trophies?
So yes, a long winded answer, but I can’t see why we can’t use a little of both.

I think Chelsea play the worlds most boring football, they sit back hit u on the break and sit 10 men back with 3 breaking. I mean it's astoundingly effective but it's boring.
I didn't mind when Arsenal were winning the premiership cos at least they played nice football and u could sit down and watch them play but Chelsea games are so bloody dull. They just grind teams down and they were (to my surprise, honestly no sarcasm involved) unable to kick it up a gear against Barca when they were a goal down and just went out with a bit of a wimper.
Whether or not united win the league next season I'd rather we played good attacking football than grinded our way to victory and any united fan who remembers united of even two years ago will say the same! Horrah!

In all honesty win the title, although both can and hopefully, will be next season. The fact of the matter is we haven't lost games because of our style of play but the fact the players covering for injuries and the loss of players such as Keane and Scholesy have been unsatisfactory. We could of played Chelsea's style of football and still wouldn't of won the title. As we shown near the end of the season, with the rigth players being consistent you can win games by playing 'beautiful' football, Barcelona are the perfect example of a team who play total football and are successful; League winners and in the Champions League final doesn't get much better.
Of course I would of liked to win the title but I'd like to spend nearly £100 a week and get some fantastic, exciting football in exchange. I think United's weaknesses hasn't been their style of play but the lack of talent or consistency in players who have come into the side. Next season, I believe with the right signings and consistency most of all, United can win the title, and do well in the Champions League by playing beautiful.
Joga Bonito, and all that bollocks...I'm all for it.! ;D

I'd be more than happy us playing like Wimbledon if it meant we won the league again! ;D
But of course, that is not the United way. Our pedigree is free-flowiing, counter attacking beautiful football and that is how it should stay.

As much as i love the way United play, i wouldn't mind how we played as long as we won the league.

Ive not loved the way United have played this season, maybe Im a greedy fcuk but I only seen about 5 real great team performances this season and too many mediocre performances at home.
I'll take trophies over performances anyday thanks
Sign of a good team is gettin a result when playing badly, I can't remeber the last time that happened with us
