Roy Keane says the future of the club is in "safe hands" and the former skipper is backing the Reds to bounce back after going three seasons without the title.
The 34-year-old midfielder was speaking after his testimonial match at Old Trafford which United won 1-0 against Keane's current club Celtic.
Keane says he expects to see a couple of new arrivals at Old Trafford during the summer and is predicting great things from United's promising young stars in the future.
"It's going to be tough but hopefully United will bounce back next season," declared Keane. "I'm sure they'll be one or two players leaving but I also expect there to be one or two ones coming in.
"The club have got some good young players coming through - I watched the Reserves win the league and the Treble last week - and they've got some excellent youth players as well.
"I'm sure Manchester United is in very, very safe hands," he added.
Reflecting on his shock exit from United last November, Keane insists he has no regrets over the way things ended.
"It was all very amicable," he recalled. "The manager and I shook hands and both agreed it was the right thing to do and it was, there's no doubt in my mind about that.
"I've met up with the manager on a couple of occasions since then and it's been fine. I'm a grown man, I accepted it and moved on.
"My heart will always be with United but things happen and you have to get on with your life."
Over 69,000 United and Celtic fans packed themselves inside Old Trafford to say their final farewells to Keane who played a half for each side.
"I'm grateful to both clubs, the players and of course the supporters," he said afterwards. "It actually surprised me how much I enjoyed it!
"Coming back finished things off very nicely and it was a great occasion."
